Right-wing politics :slashingtongue

It is now official. Governor Mark Sanford has been hit hard by the South Carolina’s ethics commission. He has been hit with a whopping 37 counts of violating state law ethics. The charges show that this is nothing but a political assassination of Governor Sanford.

Before I carry on, I would declare that I am not a fan of Governor Mark Sanford. I look at him as a typical politician on the right wing side of the aisle. He is part of a typical kind of political dose that is really burning this country up, something which an Independent like me does not like.

However, I do not think he did anything wrong when he had an affair with the Argentinian reporter. It is really not a benchmark of a great leader . Cleopatra slept with many men, yet she is still probably the greatest leader that Egypt ever had. President Clinton was anytime a greater leader than President Bush even though he was a blatant adulterer.

I am also disgusted by the manner that this political assassination is being carried out. In politics, when the tide is good for you, people hang around you like leeches; they want to bask in your glory. When the tide changes, you are dropped like a bowling ball. Right now, the Republicans are trying to distance themselves as far as possible from this guy.

The charges back this. They are charging him for taking a flight to see President’s Obama inauguration using his campaign’s money. Come on! You tell me that they did not know this for several months? You think they did not know that he was flying to political gatherings (I wonder which party’s political gathering did he go to…?) for YEARS? Nobody knew about this? You think nobody knew that he was taking business class international flights? Come on!

And all of a sudden, after his affair became public became public all this information comes out. Suddenly, he has gone from bring Republican governor that was supposed to be challenging President Obama in 2012 to being the Republican Party’s pariah boy. Suddenly, he got from commanding respect to being threatened by his Lieutenant Governor to quit or pay the consequences.

We cannot allow this to happen! What he has done is not comparable to what Governor Rod Blagojevich or Governor Elliot Spitzer has done. They committed crimes, which we hope that nobody knew. Is Governor Sanford’s offense anyhow as serious as these people’s offenses?

I do understand that if I were a prosecutor in charge of this case, I would have no choice but to go after the Governor. But I would also go after each and every person that knew about the Governor doing all this for allowing a crime to happen and not reporting it at the appropriate time. I would follow the book completely.

I do not want our country to be more of a political circus than it already is! We cannot allow one person to punished by the law and the rest escape Scott-free. Enough is enough! We cannot allow a Lieutenant Governor to threaten his boss in the manner Lt. Governor Andre Bauer has. That is outright disgusting!

If people want to start making accusations, they better ensure that they are not breaking the rules or the law themselves! People who live in glass houses should not throw stones!

Mark my words: The Republicans would sweep into power in the House and / or Senate by 2014. I guarantee that! You may hear many other “pundits” in the radio, television and the Internet that the Republican Party is going to be a dying brand. I am pitting my words directly against theirs. Here are my reasons.

1)Liberals cannot see the threat that is staring in their faces.

The story of the tortoise and the hare is one that people never seen to forget but, at the same time, never seem to learn from. Yes, the Democrats made huge strides last year. But the fact is that, the reason for their shift in momentum was due to the charisma that President Obama had in 2008 and the economic collapse. The chips was all in their favor; then.

The politically-dim Democrats, however, thought it was because of poisonous characters like Governor Sarah Palin that had been rejected by the populace. To them, the Republican party has fallen. Them, referring to most of the hosts of MSNBC, “strategists” like James Carville and Radio show hosts like Cenk Uyghur of the Young Turks. President Reagan’s big tent may have collapsed, but his winning formula is still around. The biggest reason that the Republican Tortoise is going to cross the line is because the Democratic hare is sleeping.

2)Movement and superior grassroots organization of the right wing.

Examples of right-wing movements are the talk radio shows, FOX News Channel, in the net, and print media that are obviously on the right wing but declare themselves as Independent and unbiased. The liberals have no answer but the wrong answers to check these right-wing movements.

The second is the grassroots organization. Examples of these are Tea Party movements and churches. I find it eerily powerful that Churches have the power to stop a law in California and are now being approached for help to stop health care reform. The Tea Party movement just highlights how bad the management of handling the Tea Party protests were by the Democrats. 75000 protested against President Obama on 9/12, while 80 000 protested less than a month later for gay rights. See the difference in media coverage? Again, that is down to grassroots organization, that the Democrats lack.

3)Right Wing money.

The far right fights for tax cuts for the corporations, the incorporation of flat taxes, privatizing Social Security and Medicare, etc. These are all things that are favorable to the big companies. The only group of companies that are on the usually left leaning are the tech companies.

Whilst the Democrat can count on the loony left wing unions, their base does not have the guaranteed cash flow that the right wing has. In this way, I think that the Republican National Committee would always have more money than the DNC. Money buys airtime, ads and also personal visitations. This also an area that President Obama did very well last year, but the Democrats were not as successful as they should be.

4)Lack of defense for President Obama.

Liberals also do not know how to protect one another. When Van Jones was all but forced to resign over the silliest of issues, no left wingers stood up to defend them. When ACORN is being attacked, they never stood up. Public Option was torn apart and shredded and the Democrats do nothing. With this weakness, the President is left exposed and it would be a matter of when not, if, to disregard his credibility.

Seriously, when would the Liberals learn? Since the Liberals never learn, why aren’t people supporting the Independents? To me that is the biggest mystery.

Liberals are the losers in American politics. One of the furthest left wing person in America is MSNBC’s Rachael Maddow. In these two examples, I am going to highlight some recent issues she brought up that we might have agreed on in general BUT yet she is wrong.

Rachael Maddow claiming that the Public option bill is not enough:

She went against the proposition that Senator Harry Reid put on the floor, which is the public option with the option for states to opt out. I am all for this and I think that the Republicans really got no excuses here. I even went as far as to say that this means that health-care should not be a state matter with state level funding rather than a federal level.

However, Rachael Maddow disagreed. This is what she said : “ Thank goodness we have 60 Democrats in the Senate right! Of all the different things that (Leader) Harry Reid could have put forward… a really modest conservative version of the public option. … How well would this work? It is public option just for uninsured people and it probably won’t be available in some states? One of the main arguments for the public option is that it would be big….”

No Rachael, sensible people do not support the public option because it is big, people support it because it is an option! It is competition to the health insurance companies. I really do not care if it is big or small! As long as it can bring my cost down, by competing with the insurance companies, I am for it!

She said that it is only for people that are uninsured, this is misleading. It is only for the uninsured because the health bill does not kick in straight away. The rest of the population would have it around 2014. The uninsured get it straight away. It is as simple as that.

Thirdly, this is the conservative option? There were options being put out where people can buy across state lines, we have mentioned in the past that those methods would not work. But that is a more conservative option than the public option. We threw out ideas of starting a trade war between health insurance companies, opening up the industry to foreign companies as well as to give a federal reward to the company with the highest customer satisfaction. I guess these are all way too right wing for you huh?

Rachael Maddow claiming that Senator John McCain wants to rig the Internet.

Come on! To put it in simplest terms, it is customers right to view content vs Internet Service Providers to cut up the content to sell (think one plan for e-mail only, one plan for social sites only, etc). I agree with her position and I am all out for net neutrality but listen to what she has to say.

“The government say, the Internet should be free. Big companies should not be able to rig the Internet for their own purposes. (Senator) John McCain bill says that they should. That is the same Senator McCain who back in 2008, when asked if he preferred a Mac or a PC, said this: ” I am a(n) illiterate (who) has to rely on my wife for all the assistance that I can get.” ”

Oh, give me a break! Where did she get that Senator McCain has evil intention to want to rig the Internet? Why must it be that he is evil rather than Senator McCain just have a different opinion? That is what makes you a wing-nut. I disagreed with him on this issue and the Rape Bill recently, but I still maintain the respect I have for respect him.

And to rub it in, she gave a very mean spirited attack on Senator McCain, over his honest answer last year. I learned something this year that I did not know last year? Does that mean that I cannot comment on that program language I learned? So if Senator McCain was a IT-illiterate, does that mean that he must be stuck in that state forever?

These are the kind of instances that can turn an Independent like me off. It also make a news-shy citizen turn off too with those blatant lies. Don’t get me wrong, the right wing bullshits too. But they do not do it as stupidly as the Liberals do. Bar Bill Maher and Alan Grayson, I cannot think of one that can match the right wing in terms of attacks. Add this to the Democrats lack of spine and what do you get : L-O-S-E-R-S!

Unexpectedly remarkable! I know nobody that had predicted President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Most shockingly, he won it within 10 months of being President and weeks after he got the nomination.

The first reason that I can think of when they gave the award, was the love story the world had and still has with President Obama. Even though the Republicans think that his foreign standing is diminished after the Olympics “fiasco”, the fact is that President Obama is really loved internationally. You can forget anyone trying to throw a shoe at him internationally.

They also respect the manner he brought our country from having a unilateral foreign policy to a multilateral ones. In all frankness, this is something that is very unique about President Obama. The world has often viewed American foreign policy as one that is full of arrogance even though we literally rebuilt the world after World War 2. That ended with President Obama.

Another reason for his victory could be the reaction the right wing has given him. The sheer lack of respect is disgusts them. The world is stunned when they see people carrying racist signs becoming a part of the opposition to President Obama. Most countries, particularly the developed ones, have universal health-care and they loathe it when the opposition go around spreading BS like death panels and rationing health-care.

I am not saying that there are no merits for the President’s victory. He has done more to get rid the world of nuclear weapons more than any in history. His mere presence alone was enough to heal the division between the Muslim world and the West. He made America lovable once more. He became a world icon because he speaks well and his stance on the issues, to the world in general, are the right ones. To put it simply, the world is in sync with President Obama’s mentality and issues.

There are some factors of him winning the Nobel prize that are of question. For one, how can a person who is running 2 wars be winning the penultimate peace prize? Other than all the talk, what has the President really accomplished? He cannot even take on the Republicans on issues like health-care, how in the world is he going to take on China and Iran? However, until I see the rest of the short-list, I would not take the victory from the President.

I am also blown away by the official Republican reaction. Why can’t they have the reaction that Senator McCain had? Why can’t we be proud that our President has won the peace prize? Why can we see the President as American, not as a Democrat? If President Bush (43) won the same prize, I would laugh and think that it was a joke, but I would not go around hating it. He was my President, the head of state of my country. I think that it is utterly disgraceful, the manner the wing-nut Republicans hate this and how some love it when Chicago lost the Olympic bid..

Lastly, I think that this would be of no effect to President Obama’s presidency at all. It is not going to help him ensure that Virginia remains blue, it is not going to help him get health care reform the way he wants it, etc. It is, after all the talk, ineffectual to Americans. It could be helpful if he wants to run as the General Secretary of the UN, but we do not give a freak about our President winning the Nobel Prize.

Duh! The President and his administration is definitely right when he says that and has a right to “fact-check whatever the President says. This is something that we have been saying all along! But what the President forgets is that there is also MSNBC that worships his every word.

I really do not see any defense for FOX News when it comes to this. When you can have nuts like Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck, you cannot claim to be “fair and balanced”. When they have producers that are trying to rally up crowd gathered by their own anchor, how can FOX claim to be a news organization? How can they be considered sensible when they think that Google is biased towards liberals and is left leaning? Google?!

“Fair and balanced is just a catchphrase and is not in any way accurate about FOX News. It is like tourism brochures that claim “kingdom of wonder” or fast-food outlets claiming that they are “finger licking good”. It is just sale-pitch, not reality.

Our take on it though is that the President is not being fair to the network. This is because, it is not just FOX news, but the news cycle itself that is becoming nothing more than opinion journalism. Far left MSNBC is basically the left wing version of FOX News with only left wing punditry. CNN leads the rest of the cohorts with left vs right wing punditry on their shows. They also tend to have mellow hosts like Anderson Cooper and Campbell Brown.

All of the above mentioned companies are not really supplying news. The real supplier of news are agencies like the Associated Press, Reuters and Agence France-Press (AFP). But lets be honest, how many people watch or read their news? CSPAN is definitely the best political channel in America, but don’t we snooze when we watch it.

It is we, the consumer, that should be blamed. It is no secret that FOX News has the highest ratings amongst the news channels. Why? It is because we Americans, Conservative, Liberal or independent would prefer to watch Jay Leno and the NFL rather than to watch news. Additionally, the people that want to watch the news are from the far right. Hence, FOX news dominance.

The nuts are real, have no doubt about that. Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Keith Olbermann, Rachael Maddow etc… But at the end of the day, it is all about the numbers. And WE make the numbers. FOX is just following a strategy that makes them more money.

The other point that I want to make is the hypocrisy of President Obama. MSNBC did this for the last 8 years. Did he complain? MSNBC “carried his balls” throughout his Presidential campaign. Did he complain then? MSNBC is openly skewered to the left. Does he complain? No! He has said nothing about them.

I also think that he should have taken the approach that Michael Moore took. He should have gone on a show that hates him the most, like Sean Hannity’s show and bitch-slapped them. He should have done things Slashing Tongue style and tell FOX News off during their show in their face. But he did not do that when he should have.

At the end of the day, I want people to understand the effect of what we are doing. We “stupify” debates when we take our news from comedians like Letterman rather than Katie Couric. We are buying crazy talk when we listen to people like Rush Limbaugh.

To be brutally honest, that was why this set was set up. And we hope that we are providing a better alternative in text than these guys are providing!
