Lieutenant Governor :slashingtongue

It is now official. Governor Mark Sanford has been hit hard by the South Carolina’s ethics commission. He has been hit with a whopping 37 counts of violating state law ethics. The charges show that this is nothing but a political assassination of Governor Sanford.

Before I carry on, I would declare that I am not a fan of Governor Mark Sanford. I look at him as a typical politician on the right wing side of the aisle. He is part of a typical kind of political dose that is really burning this country up, something which an Independent like me does not like.

However, I do not think he did anything wrong when he had an affair with the Argentinian reporter. It is really not a benchmark of a great leader . Cleopatra slept with many men, yet she is still probably the greatest leader that Egypt ever had. President Clinton was anytime a greater leader than President Bush even though he was a blatant adulterer.

I am also disgusted by the manner that this political assassination is being carried out. In politics, when the tide is good for you, people hang around you like leeches; they want to bask in your glory. When the tide changes, you are dropped like a bowling ball. Right now, the Republicans are trying to distance themselves as far as possible from this guy.

The charges back this. They are charging him for taking a flight to see President’s Obama inauguration using his campaign’s money. Come on! You tell me that they did not know this for several months? You think they did not know that he was flying to political gatherings (I wonder which party’s political gathering did he go to…?) for YEARS? Nobody knew about this? You think nobody knew that he was taking business class international flights? Come on!

And all of a sudden, after his affair became public became public all this information comes out. Suddenly, he has gone from bring Republican governor that was supposed to be challenging President Obama in 2012 to being the Republican Party’s pariah boy. Suddenly, he got from commanding respect to being threatened by his Lieutenant Governor to quit or pay the consequences.

We cannot allow this to happen! What he has done is not comparable to what Governor Rod Blagojevich or Governor Elliot Spitzer has done. They committed crimes, which we hope that nobody knew. Is Governor Sanford’s offense anyhow as serious as these people’s offenses?

I do understand that if I were a prosecutor in charge of this case, I would have no choice but to go after the Governor. But I would also go after each and every person that knew about the Governor doing all this for allowing a crime to happen and not reporting it at the appropriate time. I would follow the book completely.

I do not want our country to be more of a political circus than it already is! We cannot allow one person to punished by the law and the rest escape Scott-free. Enough is enough! We cannot allow a Lieutenant Governor to threaten his boss in the manner Lt. Governor Andre Bauer has. That is outright disgusting!

If people want to start making accusations, they better ensure that they are not breaking the rules or the law themselves! People who live in glass houses should not throw stones!

I have taken heat over my defense of Governor Mark Sanford over his affairs. I do understand that female readers would be livid with what I am going to write in this article; but that does not make me a sexist or a chauvinist.

Having come from a prim and proper family, I may not know what it feels like for someone to cheat on you. I have never had that bad experience in my love life either. But that does not mean that I do not understand what the family and the wife go through should the man cheat. It is hell I get it. I get that the man can be scorned by the wife, the kids and to a lesser extent, the society.

However, the one area that I think that promiscuity should have no effect, is in the workplace. A person that is divorced or is a playboy outside the office, should not be discriminated. A person that cheats on his wife should never be viewed as a person that is not able to do their job. That is also true when it comes to public office.

So I am again on the defense when Governor Mark Sanford is basically being threatened by his Lieutenant Governor, Andre Bauer. He is told to quit within the month. I think that that is disgusting. So what if he has cheated on his wife? That is the charge that he should step down with?

Republicans also point out to claims that Governor Sanford took state money for trips. But these are just claims! It is not a straight-forward thing. It is not a 100% certainty. If he is proven guilty, impeach him (if he is still around) and fine him to get back the money. Till then, nobody should have the right to make such threats as Lieutenant Governor did. I am still perplexed that a Lieutenant Governor has the cheek to issue such an ultimatum. I say this even though I am not a fan of Mark Sanford.

The second person that I would like to defend is Senator John Edwards. Liberals have gone berserk over him planning to marry his ugly mistress should his wife lose her battle with cancer. Look, I really like Elizabeth Edwards. I think that she would have made a very goody first lady and a good role model. I also think that Senator Edwards suck at being a Senator and should never be the American President.

But that does not mean that the intentions of Senator Edwards was bad or evil. I really do not see what the big deal is? Is it because he does not want to divorce his angelic wife? Is it because he would have caused trauma to his kids? Even if it were so, it is none of our business!Let them have his head.

It should also not be just for men. I KNOW that women would definitely have a harder time should they have committed adultery. I think that that is wrong too. The lady can sleep with a different man or woman every night for all I care, as long as she is doing her job well.

I think we Americans should really treat competence over values, as of now it is the other way around. Haven’t we learn from the examples of the previous 2 Presidents? President Clinton left with budget surpluses, while President Bush left us with a lot of problems on our plate. I hope that we never have to find out the hard way again, why it is so important to value competence rather than to caste it aside for values.
