health care :slashingtongue

He is the person that the business world call the Oracle from Omaha and is one of the richest people in the world. His company just made $3 billion last quarter. This time, where our politicians and media did not get it, he hit the nail right on the head …. on health-care!

Yes, yes, yes…. Finally there was a person that got how the American people were feeling about the healthcare bill. Hey Democrats and Republicans listen to what this man has to say, after all he is the person with money that you guys seem to adore, unlike we normal people whom you chose to ignore!

Here, is his quote (from Reuters):

“ It’s like a tapeworm eating at our economic body,” Buffett said on CNBC television.
“If it was a choice today between Plan A, which is what we’ve got, or Plan B, which is the Senate bill, I would vote for the Senate bill,” he said. “But I would much rather see a Plan C that really attacks costs, and I think that’s what the American public wants to see.”

Firstly, Democrats : your bill sucks. It is so lightweight that the only thing that seems heavy is the fact that it is more than 2000 pages long! Your bill is an abysmal failure and the manner that it goes about cutting cost is really bad….

And Republicans, your notion that we have the best form of healthcare is something that only crazy people say, or people who are simply having an agenda doing nothing. All you guys talk about is cutting cost, when what you provide as an alternative is horrifically worse!

Look, the most important factor of the issue with health-care is : Cost! Cost baby cost! It is the cost that is really affecting Americans. We pay a ridiculous 17% if our GDP on healthcare, and rates are still rising like crazy. Why? That is the point where the Big 2 parties have lost out.

We want cheaper plans. We do not care if it is by the government or not by the government! We would prefer a choice of both! That is why public option is very popular with the people in America, but is forgotten or should I say, intentionally ignored by our leaders in Washington.

I find it very sad that it seems very normal that $4 trillion was wasted in the last 10 years and nobody did anything in those times. Where were the Democrats who are the so called champions on this issue? My opinion :In the pockets of special interests and lobbyists with their Republican colleagues.

Where is the media calling them out on this? Don’t they know that $4 trillion is about a third of our national debt? Or are they oblivious to it, or do they want to be oblivious to it? Where is the reporting that a lot of the waste comes from fraud which is not tackled at all in both plans!

And where is the media catching out the Republican plan ? They have the cheek to say that their plan costs ½ as much as the Democrats and covers 1/10th the amount of people? And that is comparing it with the Democratic plan that seemed to be made by kindergarten politicians.

It really pains me that over 500 people in Washington DC cannot get something as crucial as this done! If they cannot do healthcare reform, how are they going to do social security reform?

ST wishes for the new year

10)Health care bill to be passed in a responsible manner. Health care is one of the most important things affecting America. We cannot have a Republican attitude of ignoring this threat, nor can we have the Democrats manner of just getting a bill passed.

9)Terror to me quashed. The recent terrorist miss by the Nigerian tells us that the threat is still there. We must take it by the horns. We must succeed in Afghanistan. Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea and especially Pakistan too are other high risk areas to watch out for.

8)Financial reforms to be passed. We experienced a 2009 of recovery. But we must learn from our mistakes or we would have a lot more 2008 than we have to. Lets regulate Credit Default Swaps, short selling and other forms of derivatives. If these do not go unchecked, we can expect to pay a price.

7)Banking reform to be passed. Banking, together with the housing sector was what ultimately crumbled the economy. Casino banking should only happen with the banks’ own money! We cannot allow banks to gamble around with our savings to the point the government have to bail them out to secure our money!

6)Lets get immigration reform. For God’s sake, lets have fortifications along our both our borders! What are we, sub Saharan Africa where we have no money to build a proper fence or a wall? Common! Also lets just throw the illegal immigrants back to Mexico, rather than paying for them to be in jail.

5)Look after our environment! There are many IDIOTS out there that doubt global warming just like they doubt that the Earth is billions of years old and not thousands. Just because we are experiencing a cold snap right now, it does not mean that the temperature is not rising. That does not mean that we should tax on Carbon; we need regulations. We need the trees back and we need regulations that would make emissions lower rather than taxing that.

4)UNITED states of America; not Conservatistan or Liberaland. Please, lets have the Governor Jesse Ventura spirit amongst us. Lets not give a crap about unions or small government. Lets just do what is right!

3)Control our debt!!!! We are having a $11 trillion national debt, a vast majority of it which we accumulated in the last 30 years. We need to get it done. Lets spend where we need to and cut it in cases where we do not. Let the Bush tax cuts expire please, for the sake of our future generations.

2)Lets start manufacturing again. We need to start making things again in America. Else we are going to have a turbulent, jobless future. Lets start with green jobs please! That is the kind of job that would never leave!

1)America resurges again! I am sick and tired of people saying China and India are surging and future big shots. Do you know what? We put them there! I challenge America right now, that we would be the economy that the world turns to.

No time for environment or immigration but….

They always say “We have got to put off illegal immigration as we have got to take care of the issue of health-care first.” “ The economy is the most important and we should discuss the ACES bill at a later time.” But do you know what kind of bill is now the hot topic in Congress…?

Un-freaking-believable! We are wasting time in the Congress talking about making TV ads lower in volume. Yes I am that serious. A Californian Representative, Representative Anna Eshoo, thinks it is too annoying, and something needs to be done about it. Guess this is Representative Eshoo’s idea of Christmas gift!

What the hell (I wanted to use another four letter word)! What are we going to talk about next? Regulating the army against the oompa-loompa invasion in the future? Must we regulate bicycles just in case ET needs to use one of them to fly?

On the topic of annoyance, can we regulate about babies crying on planes? Can we please stop having movies with blue people; where is the creativity man; Smurfs, X-men, Avatar? Can we ban the swinging gate maneuver that the Redskins played against the Giants?

This is utterly ridiculous! Seriously, worried about ads? Is this of the utmost emergency? Can we knock some Governor Jesse Ventura sense into Congress. We cannot get any health care work done, but we can spend hours about this bull crap! Are we electing idiots?

Whenever a bill comes about; these politicians whine about not given enough time to read bills in time to vote when we do the same thing and comment about it, we should remind them about this rubbish!

The healthcare debate should have been over months ago. It should have been wrapped up in three months. We should have solved the issues concerning illegal immigration, the ACES bill and an education reform bill by now.

But no! Rather than having the efficiency of the military, we are having theatrics of a soap opera instead. It is fun to watch, but very painful to realize that this is the body that is running our country! Why, why is this happening only in our America? I think the answer to that question would be the savior of our future generations.

The political threat to our country is very real. It seems to be heading to a political implosion. On the one hand there are the Republicans who is being taken over by the nutty right wing led by crazy woman from Alaska, and the Democrats that are so pathetic and politically dumb led by weakness and chief, President Obama.

Enough is enough! We have get down and get issues straight and start solving them. Please knock some sense into your member of Congress!

Harry Reid’s make or break moment

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is now being bombarded with attacks from the Republicans on his comment “linking” slavery and the health care bill. What I would like to see, is the mettle of the Leader of the Democrats in the Senate, a good indicator for the future.

This is the exact phrase he used. “When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said slow down, it’s too early, let’s wait, things aren’t bad enough.” Now this phrase has brought about a tirade of Republican opposition to it. RNC Chairman Michael Steele has demanded an apology. Others have gone down a path of bashing, with even CNN’s David Gergen, one of television’s most respected pundits, slamming this statement.

This exposes a media double standard. When Republicans do something rough, everybody expects it to be so. When Republicans say that this Health care deal would pull the plug out of grandma, everybody was okay with it. When Governor Sarah Palin and company still has the cheek to come out and question the citizenship of President Obama, it is okay.

But when Leader Reid comes about and say that delaying health care reform is the same as delaying the abolishment of slavery, it becomes a big deal. I think this saga, along with the fact that the Tea Baggers who represent 5%pf our population gets a ton more coverage than the Public Option which is supported by 60% of the population; should shut the Conservative myth of a liberal media up.

Now, I am an Independent. I am a person that would love to see the discussion being about substance and details. I would prefer to see the discussion being set in Maine where it is more sane rather than the backdrop of the rest of the country.

But that is not how American politics work. If there are drawbacks of having a democratic system, this is it. Of course it is also fun to watch! It is the reason we are doing sites like this, to showcase our point of view in a sea of mess.

In this case, it is very interesting to see how Leader Reid is going to react to the barrage of Republican criticism. So far, he has stuck to his statement, but appear to be hushing it. This to me is the significance of Democratic weakness. Democrats shy away from a fight, Republicans take it up by its horns no matter how stupid it sounds.

To save his election next year, this is what he should do. Focus the media attention on himself. Reiterate the statement that not doing anything about this is the same as not doing anything about slavery. He is not entirely wrong, as health care would bankrupt our country by 2016 if nothing is done about it as soon as possible. The urgency is there. He should declare that. He should expose the Republican’s plan and the fact that it only covers 2 million uninsured Americans.

That is how the game should be played. But do you think he would do that? No. the reason is that Democrats are dumb! The only Democrat that knows how to fight back is Senator Alan Grayson. A good example is the “rape” bill. That is the most obvious thing for the Democrats to have pounced on, say that the Republicans voted for “rape” while Democrats voted to protect rape victims. Sounds unfair, but that is how the game is played.

Too bad for the Democrats, they do not know how to do it. Anyway, Leader Reid is an ass of a lawmaker anyway. He is way too far left and is not fit to lead a body in the Senate. His loss next year, and I predict that he will, may be devastating to the Democrats, but is inconsequential to the rest of us.

Obama risky in Copenhagen

President Obama is going to attend the last few days of the climate change summit in Copenhagen. This could be Kyoto once again, where the President was in favor of climate change regulation, but the Congress shot it down.

Firstly, let me make it clear. Climate change is a reality. The very fact that there would not be ice sheet in the Arctic region and that companies are planning to use it as a sea route should be proof that it is real. When islands literally would disappear (Maldives), you know it is real. When coastlines are encroaching land (Philippines, Bangladesh, Western India), you know that it is real. Just because some hoaxers come up and give nonsense about them hacking climate change e-mails, it does not mean that climate change is fake.

So I am for solving the problem of climate change. I am not however, accepting that taxing carbon is the way to go. Should we tax carbon, it would just encourage corporations to change only if it is financially viable. It can be worked round. We are human beings, we would always find a way out.

I would rather prefer regulations with muscle. For example, lets ban plastic bags already! We could use paper bags that we did in the 60s. We should ban plastic bottles in favor of the greener Tetra packs. We can demand that all vehicles be 25% cleaner within 5 years. It is these kind of tough regulations that would force the industries to be energy efficient.

That is the main reason my support for the ACES bill is not a strong one. Another concern I have is that we cannot afford it. The government is literally offering options that can provide green energy rebates that are so large, that corporations can technically give free of charge “green” electricity to the populace and still make money!

That being said, I think that the President is really playing a sorry game over here. While the Democrats may be the ones controlling the house this time, they are weak and pathetic. They do not have the muscle that they require. They would lose the climate bill as much as they are losing the health care debate today. The Republicans would not allow the President Obama to have the bill either.

That is why, I think that the President should be making concerted efforts locally rather than internationally. He should be banging on the doors of his Democrats and get his left wing base ready. He should be talking to us Independents rather than talking to the Republicans about having climate change regulation. If it is to include more tax breaks kind of ideas, I would be pist!

I think that President Obama is really putting his foot in his mouth should he makes any kind of commitment in Copenhagen. It would be stupid to the max! He really should know that he does not have any leverage to make promises such as this.

At best, he can only make promises about helping to create green jobs. And for that, we do not need to send our President over there. We still have a Secretary of State right? Let her do all this. We still have the Environmental Protection agency right? Send them instead please.

I really think that it would be embarrassing that our President went overseas when everyone know that he cannot pull it off at home. I hope he proves me wrong though!
