President Obama intends to recycle the TARP profits to convert the savings into “tax-cuts” for small businesses and other infrastructure projects. The tax cuts would be a disastrous mistake and it would be something that would be just adding to the debt that we have.

Let me make this clear, these kind tax cuts would not mean anything to the middle class or the small businesses. I am not saying that I would not appreciate a tax cut, but the fact is, we got so many things to pay for that we do not feel the tax cuts effect at all. It is not like the millions that we would save if we were rich.

To prove my controversial statements above, I would like to point you guys to one example. As part of the Economic Recovery Act, the stimulus package, more than $250 billion dollars was set aside for tax cuts for the lower and upper middle class. How many of the recipients do you think would experience a reprieve or appreciated tax cut? Even today, many years after President Clinton cut taxes for the lower income bracket, people are still asking : Where was my tax cut, President Clinton?

The tax cut does not seem real at all. But what would be real is the debt it brings along with it. Should President Obama carry out his plan to convert the TARP funds to tax cuts, we would see the President cut half a trillion dollars worth of taxes. This half a trillion dollars spent, I am sorry to say, is just a waste of money.

The $200 billion could have been used to pay off the debt; we need to do that. That could have brought the deficit for this year down from $1.4 trillion to $1.2 trillion. It could have meant billions of dollars worth of interest being saved.

Many would bring us back to President’s Reagan presidency to claim that tax cuts would work, less would associate themselves with President Bush’s policies. Yes it worked, at a cost of a trillion 1980 US$! That is when the problem of debt really started in America.

If there is a further need to stimulate the economy, the many can be used in better ways. The money can be invested in infrastructure. This can be used to ensure that all our buildings and bridges are save. Lets build levies all around flood prone areas.

We can invest the money in education. Our kids are falling behind the rest of the world. While there would be people out there that blame the government, I disagree. The countries that have excellent results as of late are China, Hong Kong, Japan,Singapore and South Korea. The governments of these countries are very involved with their systems, so should we. We should meritocratize our system.

We can use the money to develop green energy. It can be seed money to help new green businesses start up. I am sure many would be interested in starting up a green business today especially with the ridiculously rebates that the government is offering in the ACES bill. This would make us very much less dependent on foreign oil.

Use it for these stuff, but please do not use it on tax cuts. It is not beneficial at all. It would just increase the debt! My preference is to use it to lower the debt that we owe China…

President Obama is going to send 30 000 more troops to Afghanistan. This is something that I support and have long stated so. However, the part about the deadline is something that confuses me. Is it the goal of the President to exit in 18 months like we did in the surge, or are we going to have to close shop within 18 months?
This is something that is rather complicating as the two scenarios have such different outcomes despite appearing to be similar. If we are going to get the hell out in 18 month regardless of the situation on the ground in Afghanistan, we are in trouble.

The President is going to allow, in his words, “ an unacceptable risk”, to be potentially around in 18 months. That would render all the blood and sacrifice of our troops in the next 18 months as fruitless.If he does that, he is failing America in a very fundamental way.

If this is the case, there is really no hope of extending the stay beyond 2012. If the troops are to draw down by July 2011; it would take 6-10 months for all of them to come home. The added incentive would be that President Obama would be viewed as the person who have brought back all the troops home, something that would go down well with his far left base.

On the other hand, if the President hopes to achieve all goals in 18 months, then that would be a good thing. We would only leave when our objectives in Afghanistan are met. That is a world away from leaving Afghanistan at a certain date by any means necessary.

As Iraq has shown us, it is very possible that we can meet our objectives in 18 months. If we could do it in Iraq, we can do it Afghanistan. This would be something very positive and something that I would support. I also like the idea of a very speedy troop surge. That is something that would be a logistical headache to the Officers and the NCOs, but I think it would boost the troop morale on the ground.

Now I do not know which one of those scenarios is right. The Republicans are claiming that the first scenario is right, while the Democrats are claiming that the second is. The President, in his speech yesterday, went both ways. Is he undecided? I wonder…

There is also the thing about the price of the war. The President has always promised that he would do everything in a deficit neutral manner. So how is he goi9ng to pay for the at least $30 billion that this war would cost? Is he going to go down the path of President Bush and leave the next generation with a $1 trillion dollar war burden? I hope he takes Governor Jesse Ventura idea seriously about a war tax.

I would also want to see do NATO her fair share of work. It is not only the United States that has suffered attacks that were being carried out by Al Qaeda which is supported by the Taliban in Afghanistan. I want to see that they contribute their very small share of 5000 men. I also hope that they go in with the desire to fight and not just be peace keepers, like they have done so many times.
However, I think that picking on his disability is out right wrong and I am ashamed that this is happening in our America.

He is terrible, Governor Patterson. Say what you like about Governor Elliot Spitzer, he knew how to run a state. The only way Governor Patterson knows how to run a state is to run it to the ground! All the figures back that up. I hope, for New York state’s sake, he gets out as soon as possible!

However, that does not mean that we should be insulting the Governor because he is blind. It is one thing to make fun of the Governor, all comedians do that. We in ST too made fun of the President and the first yesterday in our article, and many have done so on President Bush’s term a year or so ago.

But scorning a blind person because he is blind? Come on! “(Governor Patterson)blind and can’t read Braille and doesn’t really know what’s going on” Rupert Murdoch. “He has people reading newspapers to him. He listens to tapes of staffers briefing him. All that takes an enormous amount of time” Democratic politician Diane Savino .

Basically, in the manner above, we have heard many people criticizing the Governor because he is blind. I think that this is very, very wrong. Would we criticize him for him being Black? No. Because we know that that is wrong. It is called racist. In the same way, we cannot insult him because he is blind. I think that utterly wrong.

Are we going to criticize a cripple because of his or her disability? How are we going to treat special people with Down’s syndrome as second class citizens? Then why are we treating the Governor in the same manner. Haven’t we forgotten that one of our best Presidents died a paralyzed man?

Again, I state that I do not like this guy. I think he is to New York State as what George W Bush was to the whole country : trouble! There is very little that he did right in his term so far. I agree with that.

In fact that made me more sad as I feel that he has enough faults already for the world to criticize. Enough! Why criticize his blindness? Why not criticize the manner he is running the state? Everything is worse since Governor “I like hookers but you can’t have them” Spitzer. Why not criticize his statements where he claimed that President Obama is racist and does not want to see a Black governor? This guy has a treasure trove of attacks.

It is amazing that this is still going on in our America. Is this the liberty for all mentioned in the Pledge of Allegiance that we took every morning in our schools? It really stabs the heart of what America stands for.

Ever since the decision by the Attorney General Eric Holder to try 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Muhammad and four others in New York, the right wing exploded into a rage of frenzy. It is the craziest thing in the world for me and I want to see Khalid Sheikh Muhammad and company hung.

For one, I am delighted with the move by Eric Holder to finally get this done. I think that we should get back to American justice as fast as possible, rather than the world of enhanced interrogation techniques, aka torture. However, we must have the death sentence for these terrorists. We cannot allow them to have life sentences as that would risk terrorists holding up hostages in return for their release. Ask any Israeli and they would tell you that this is true.

That being said, I stress that it must, it must take place. I think it is absolutely crazy not to let it happen. What are we going to do: keep them in Guantanamo Bay forever? Does the far right really want to make that our concentration camp? Come on!

What are they afraid of : an acquittal? This is from former George W Bush’s Attorney General Mick Mukasey “The question with him (Khalid Sheikh Muhammad) was not about getting a confession, it was about getting intelligence.” They already had a confession! There is ample amount of proof that these terrorist murdered 3000 people. The chances of these guys not kissing the noose or staying in jail is as much as Adolf Hitler’s if he were alive to face the tribunals.

Are they afraid of a media circus? You know what, I want the world to see that America is back! That we can hang this piece of crap. If Khalid Sheikh Muhammad and others want to spew their bull-crap, we can get throw them out of their courts. The Conservatives fear that these people would be able to change their defense and that would increase the length of the trial. My question to them back is : How many murderers do we send to prison even though they have the very same rights? It does not make sense.

There are also many Conservatives who fear that this would mean that the President Bush’s policies would be put on trial. I am a person that clearly thinks that Enhanced Interrogation Techniques are an excuse for torture. However, the legal system would not be so stupid to confuse torture with this. The case is about the evidence, not some external issue.

They know these facts! They are just acting so scared. They are just being crazy and paranoid. There is absolutely nothing to be worried about! Nothing! I think that they know it and they are doing this just to gain attention. Just like how the liberals do to get our troops out of Afghanistan.

Lets be the bloodhounds that smell blood. Lets be equally interested in justice. Lets make sure that more than 3000 people not die in vain. Lets hang those basta**s.

He may not know how to run a state, but boy, isn’t Governor Jesse Ventura right on the issues. Though it is a couple of days old from Larry king Live, I think what Governor Ventura said was tremendously important. He also exposes American politics at its core.

Larry king asked Governor Jesse Ventura : “ Whats your read on tonight? Is this a national implication from result here” in Virginia? Governor Ventura fired back : “I just think it is the pendulum swinging, around between the Democrats and the Republicans. The thing I find most interesting is the lemming mentality of America and how they can be sold the ‘fact’ that the economy is bad and it is President Obama’s fault. Excuse me, it is George Bush’s fault.”

Had the Democrats campaigned anywhere as close to the manner that an Independent can in this clip, they would have won handily! The economy was always the number one issue in all the races. ALL! If they could have pinned the blame on the Republicans, they would have won.

He added : “The other interesting thing for is what David Gergen talked about how this could cost Democrats to back off from health care and all this because of (the) fear of losing. What you notice is that Democrats and Republicans; its not about standing for what they believe in, its about what I have to do to win or lose!.. And these guys hold their finger up to the proverbial wind to see which way it is blowing so then they can decide where they are going to sit politically.”

So damn true! I also would add that to the Republicans and the Democrats, it is also about their ideology. This is particularly so for the Republicans. They do not care about American values as much as they care about their Conservative or Liberal values. It is a fact!

Later, he completely ignored Larry King’s question and attacked the point that James Carville made, regarding Democrats being uncomfortable about health care after the election results. Governor Ventura fired, “Larry, why is that the election results has such have such a bearing on how other Democrats would vote on health care? Why they don’t stand up for what they believe in, instead of holding their finger up to the proverbial winds? That the whole problem. Democrats are spineless. They do not know what they believe in!” Wham-bham thank you ma’am!

Again how right is Governor Ventura! Democrats are really a spineless bunch. They have no idea what to go for and what to go against. They control the House of Representatives and have 60 votes in the Senate. Yet, they still kow-tow to Republican demands. That is why they suck and would not win elections.

The best part of the interview was when Governor Ventura suggested that politicians come in NASCAR like uniforms so that we know who their sponsors are. I think that it is funny, but at the same time I think it is so true! Voters have a right to know who is paying the person that they are voting for!Else we have buy-outs like we have right now.

Next, he went after odd yearn elections. Now this is true. I would rather have all elections in even years. To make it simple, all local and state elections (gubernatorial, mayoral etc.) happen on a year would be followed by Federal elections two years later ( Senate, Congress, Presidential). Isn’t this much cheaper and easier for the voters to follow?

Though he ended up about withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, something I do not agree with, I sill stay that Jesse Ventura is the man. He should be a Senator some day. He is really that good.

This is the worst example of waste I have ever heard of! Thomson Reuters, the news mega giant and one of the 4 news real agencies in America, did this study and found that the governments waste up to 800 billion this year. Yes it is billion, with a freaking b!

37% of the waste is to have protection against malpractice suits. 22% is just wasted fraud, where are the Feds!? Aren’t they supposed to settle this? Having a rigid paper system alone wastes up to $60 billion a year! Administrative inefficiency and medical mistakes take up 18% and 11% respectively. What are we thinking wasting all this money away!

$800 billion. What was our government and our Presidents doing the last 10 years? Was President Clinton too busy with interns in the Oval Office? Was President Bush just too dumb not to understand how big $800 billion was.

$800 billion, that is close to the cost of the stimulus package, every year. $800 billion, that is higher than the defense budget. $800billion, that is more than what we gave out to corporations via TARP last year. It is bloody insane that this had gone unnoticed!

The best part is that Reuters reports that there is at least $505 billion in wastage every year. So we are wasting at least half a trillion a year! I really though that the President was exaggerating it when he said that we could save half a trillion in Medicare by cutting wastes, but he was proven right!

There is also the perspective of the national debt here. $500 billion may be today’s figure, but I bet that we have wasted $2.5 trillion in the last ten years. If we are to include long term interest, we are going to get the figure to be around $3trillion. And that is at the lowest end of the spectrum.

Do you know what does this mean? It means that all the while health care has all along been the huge component of the national deficit. All the while everybody, including me, had been ignoring these numbers at our own peril! We must wake up to this!

The report also suggests that $1 out of every $3 of our health care bill is a waste. $1 in $3! Can you imagine what would happen if this kind of wastage happens outside government? I sure know that my boss would fire me if I wasted that ratio of office funds!

Where in the world are the other so called news agencies in America reporting this? Where is FOX News, MSNBC, CNN, HLN, PBS and so on. Isn’t this the top news? What can be bigger than this? Hillary Clinton, Balloon Boy hoax, ACORN (guess which channel still runs that nonsense?) or the LA Dodger’s divorce? Why don’t they report this at all?

It is time that we hang place politicians feet by the fire! Having entire bodies of Congress ignoring this is next to treason to me! It really appalls and offends me! That being said, we should give credit where it is due and we would like to thank our President for bringing this up.

I never liked the Joy Behar and never watched her show on HLN. However, a member of the team e-mailed me a link to an interesting video. She sounds like Arianna Huffington and is the right-wing crazier version of her. She is also hailed as the queen of the Birthers.

Firstly, to the Birthers, get your damn story straight! It is as if they had theory of every place they can think of and made him be born there. Choose one of your ridiculous claims and stick to it:

He is Kenyan and born in Kenya via in his paternal ancestral home;
He is a Brit, as he was born in Kenya which was a British colony then;
He is Cuban, his mum slept with an African-Cuban man and she was educated in Communist schools in Washington state and making Obama President is all part of Castro’s conspiracy to destroy America
He is Vietnamese, is a product of a Vietnamese-Black relationship,Vietnam wants to bring Communism to America just in case Vietnam lost the war, so they sent Obama;
He is Indonesian, born in Indonesia to an Indonesian man and his mum;
He was born in Hawaii, which is not part of America;
He was born in Mexico and is actually an illegal immigrant in the United States;
He was not born, but is the Anti-Christ to rid the world of Christianity and to install himself as God;

If there are other conspiracy theories, please add in the commentary box below. I would authenticate President Obama’s Birth Certificate and all the courts that rejected your claims, if you can prove that he has a birth certificate in the place where you say he is born; (Sorry to those of you that think he is Satan).

Back to Orly Taitz, the best part of this lady’s position is that, even if he was born in Hawaii and Hawaii is part of the United States, President Obama still would not be President. Why? Because she defines a natural born citizen as one that have parents born in the US!

She even went after Governor Piyush “Bobby” Jindal, saying that he should not even be considered as a Presidential candidate because his parents were born in India. When she attacked Jindal, it showed me that this lady is nothing but racist! She just cannot take it that a non white individual can be President in our great country.

This lady is just pure crazy. She is like Glenn Beck and Keith Olbermann during the President Bush administration. They just spurt out nonsensical theories filled with hate to get attention and get away with it Scot free. I think that the laws of slander should be reformed, and lets bankrupt these jerks with lawsuits.

If we punish them financially, maybe this kind people would think twice when they talk. They would not dare tell people to stab President Obama, mention that President Bush was a Nazi and say that President Obama is not born in the US. They have got to back thier up. I also think that the judge that told Orly Taitz off did his job excellently, and the next judge should really take action against her if she pursues this matter without evidence as it is.

I agree that we should have freedom of speech. This site is an opinion commentary blog about American politics. Without free speech, this site cannot exist. But we cannot go around saying nonsense. We allow a person to go around calling a lady lesbian so that he can become Governor of Texas. We cannot allow people to call Obama anti-Christ or say that people who eat meat should be killed. There is a limit, and we should draw the line.

The reason I say this is because speech can incite violence. Up to a million people died in Rwanda because there were hate speeches on the radio that went unchecked. Hitler rose, because his hate speech was unchecked. Hate speeches of Jews are being left unchecked in the Middle East now.

Like many great things, free speech must never be abused. Its abuse can be fatal Never again should we allow it to happen.

Unexpectedly remarkable! I know nobody that had predicted President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Most shockingly, he won it within 10 months of being President and weeks after he got the nomination.

The first reason that I can think of when they gave the award, was the love story the world had and still has with President Obama. Even though the Republicans think that his foreign standing is diminished after the Olympics “fiasco”, the fact is that President Obama is really loved internationally. You can forget anyone trying to throw a shoe at him internationally.

They also respect the manner he brought our country from having a unilateral foreign policy to a multilateral ones. In all frankness, this is something that is very unique about President Obama. The world has often viewed American foreign policy as one that is full of arrogance even though we literally rebuilt the world after World War 2. That ended with President Obama.

Another reason for his victory could be the reaction the right wing has given him. The sheer lack of respect is disgusts them. The world is stunned when they see people carrying racist signs becoming a part of the opposition to President Obama. Most countries, particularly the developed ones, have universal health-care and they loathe it when the opposition go around spreading BS like death panels and rationing health-care.

I am not saying that there are no merits for the President’s victory. He has done more to get rid the world of nuclear weapons more than any in history. His mere presence alone was enough to heal the division between the Muslim world and the West. He made America lovable once more. He became a world icon because he speaks well and his stance on the issues, to the world in general, are the right ones. To put it simply, the world is in sync with President Obama’s mentality and issues.

There are some factors of him winning the Nobel prize that are of question. For one, how can a person who is running 2 wars be winning the penultimate peace prize? Other than all the talk, what has the President really accomplished? He cannot even take on the Republicans on issues like health-care, how in the world is he going to take on China and Iran? However, until I see the rest of the short-list, I would not take the victory from the President.

I am also blown away by the official Republican reaction. Why can’t they have the reaction that Senator McCain had? Why can’t we be proud that our President has won the peace prize? Why can we see the President as American, not as a Democrat? If President Bush (43) won the same prize, I would laugh and think that it was a joke, but I would not go around hating it. He was my President, the head of state of my country. I think that it is utterly disgraceful, the manner the wing-nut Republicans hate this and how some love it when Chicago lost the Olympic bid..

Lastly, I think that this would be of no effect to President Obama’s presidency at all. It is not going to help him ensure that Virginia remains blue, it is not going to help him get health care reform the way he wants it, etc. It is, after all the talk, ineffectual to Americans. It could be helpful if he wants to run as the General Secretary of the UN, but we do not give a freak about our President winning the Nobel Prize.
What this means is that there are a lot of crazy people out there that could get their hands on guns when they are not supposed to.

Firstly, I think that this mentality is not only open to the gun industry alone. It happens everywhere all the time. If a seller could sell liquor to underage kids and get away with it, they would. If a seller could sell drugs without being caught, they would. It is human nature to supply the demand, be it legal or illegal.

What this sting does though is that it exposed a loophole in guns legislation where people at private gun sales are not required to have background checks. If a hardcore criminal or even a terrorist wanted to get guns, they can just go to one of these gun shows and obtain it. That could end up with guns in wrong hands and body bags to be filled up.

It is also of my opinion that there should be extremely stiff punishment to all gun dealers that do not do a background check. I feel that should a person who was not supposed to get a gun, used the gun to murder someone else, the gun dealer should be charged with involuntary manslaughter. I feel that it is because of the gross negligence of the gun dealer that lead to the victim being dead, hence the involuntary manslaughter.

I know that there would be people who think that this is a step too far. “If death is a direct result of the omission of one to perform a duty, the person guilty of such omission is chargeable with manslaughter; but if such omission or duty was wilful or malicious the crime is murder.” Even though causing death was not the intent of the gun dealer, it was his or her failure of duty that led to a person being dead.

I do not think that we should take these people lightly. I have once drawn criticism for suggesting that the death penalty should be applied to Drinking Under Influence offenders regardless whether someone died as a result of their actions. Though I have since mellowed, I still think that DUI offenders are getting away with it too easily. I equate DUI offenders with these irresponsible gun owners that sell guns without a background check. Both should suffer the consequences of involuntary manslaughter should a death result from their negligences.

Sticking to the topic of negligences, why is New York City doing this and not Chicago, where there are lots of kids are shot dead? I like Mayor Bloomberg who happens to be Independent, not because he is. It stuns me to compare the competency of Mayor Bloomberg and Mayor Richard Daley. But doesn’t it seem that those politicians with an (I) behind their names are the ones that are really doing their jobs?

Lastly, President Obama’s administration must be criticized for not doing enough on gun regulation. The Democrats have just collapsed again and again on this front. They have allowed guns to be in parks as part of a credit card bill, allowed assault weapons on trains when it was banned under the President Bush administration, and I think would crumble soon to allow assault weapons in airplanes.

As an Independent, there are times when I am shocked by how people can just limit their choice of vote to just two parties, when there is a better third party candidate. Whilst most media attention is concentrated around a closing of a gap by the incumbent over the challenger, there is virtually no one reporting on the independent.

Latest polls show a 43% support for Republican challenger Chris Christie, Democratic incumbent Governor John Corzine has 37% and only a sad 12% of Jerseyites support Chris Daggett. This is a classic election where we Independents pick the winner, but not one of our own. The Republicans are supporting Republicans, the Democrats are supporting Democrats. But when it comes to us, we give nearly half of our support to Christie, about a third to Governor Corzine an a pathetic sixth of our support for Chris Daggett.

Yes, we Independents are the true Americans. We are not citizens of Republicstan or Democratland. We are the ones that vote on the grounds of a good candidate and or manifesto. And there are times, like the Presidential Election in 2008, where it comes down to 2 good candidates and we choose what we feel is the better one. I myself supported President Obama over Senator McCain. I would have voted for Senator McCain if then-Senator Clinton was the Democratic nominee.

But then, there are cases like this where the top 2 on the ticked is just not competent. This race is essentially the race between the crook, the screw up and the environmentalist dude. Why is it that the poll results paint a very different picture? It really baffles and frustrates me even though I am not from New Jersey.

Chris Christie got his job by being nominated by President Bush as Attorney after the former raised money in the latter’s Presidential campaign. Smelling something fishy? The smell grows stronger and stronger when as Attorney he awarded millions of dollars worth of “no-bid” contracts again and again to people that are all closely tied to him. There are too many accusation of corruption in this guy’s history for any sound minded person to trust him!He was a lobbyist too!

Governor Corzine has had the chance to run New Jersey well and he failed miserably. If any Governor forces the state to shut down for days, then (s)he does not deserve to run it again! It is the litmus test of competency. To add on to that, increasing the sales tax is a measure that I do not support. Unlike income and corporate taxes, sales tax directly increases cost directly and is a cost multiplier with retail. His plans to increase this to balancing the books is really not acceptable.

The problem with Chris Daggett is that he is just known as Mr. Environment. All his working like has been for the environment, in both private and public sectors. But his other policies are very good with common sense measures. For example, teachers would be judged on merit and all poorer performing teachers would be weeded out. If there are not enough teachers, get it from other state or country. That is what I call common sense.

Okay Jerseyites, here are your options. Lets say you are a patient that is has a severe disease which you do not know of. Would you go to….
Doctor 1 – a doctor that is strongly suspected of selling his patients; organs. Nothing else to show that he is competent.
Doctor 2 – your current doctor that has made you more sick
or
Doctor 3 – who though specialized on heart, knows enough about everything…

The choice is yours. Please make a good one. Please vote Chris Daggett for Governor! Help spread the word.
