Democrats :slashingtongue
If you are living in the states you would have earn it by now. The US debt has reached US$13 trillion dollars (officially 13,050,826,460,886.97 dollars on June 1). The Treasury Department stated that it was due to government overspending. As usual the democrats and the republicans will start to push the blame rather than looking for a viable solution. On a serious note, both sides have not done anything for last 10 years other than mocking and spending unnecessarily. The damned debt has literally doubled and it`s standing at the 90% of the annual gross domestic product.

The worse is not over yet. The U.S. government is roughly accumulating about US$5 billion dollars a day. Furthermore, there was a huge healthcare reform. Ever since President Obama took office the deficit increased to US$2.4 trillion. This figure does not mean that its President Obama`s fault. He did inherit a mess from the infamous “ape-man” George Bush. The man problem now is that too many things are going down. The major issues like the oil leak in Louisiana, the possibility of North and South Korea going to war and many more problems are going to be become even a bigger burden.

The obvious solutions that they would consider is to cut spending and the increasing taxes. Obama has also launched a debt commission to find ways to resolve this issue. Remember this people who doing the research are only going to give options and recommendations. They could simple create suggestions that they think is plausible and the deadline for them is by the end of the year. So what has happened to reaching out to people? Let`s assume that they come up with something. Will the new idea require more funding? We have to think again about the timeline. Remember its US$5 billion a day going up in smokes. Just count up the days to the end of year and think about the increase in debt. So who will suffer for this? The government talks about cutting cost, but sadly I think they should look deeper. They have lost a lot of money in investing businesses and have had cases of being cheated for millions of dollars. Whose money is it that they spend? George Bush is getting for giving speeches. REALLY?!!! They want to spend that kind of money on him.

Why will this situation get worse? Recently, the unemployment rate was announced. There was only a slight drop in the rate, from 9.9% to 9.7%. However, it was more than enough to for investors to pull out and make the stock markets to take a dive. The major problem is majority of the people who got employed are working the government under temporary contracts, which summed to about 431,000 new jobs created. In the private sector, jobs rose only by 41,000. Why businesses are not employing more people? Simply put they do not need to. Many businesses in the U.S. are profiting and making full use of their employees. It is clearly not their fault if they do want to employ more people and the government should not force them as well. The government jobs are temporary; as soon as contracts expire people will try to re-contract. At the same time, there will more people who want a job as well. Where will all these people go?

The government expects more jobs in the coming months but it is just a hope unless they take some serious measures in making sure that if companies employ more people they too will gain a good incentive. Even if President Obama says that the necessary steps are taken, it still seems to be a failure so far. Until we see a major change in the unemployment rates, there is going to be more problems related to debts as well. There is one thing I really hope is that companies in the U.S. would start to do in-sourcing within the U.S. rather than outsourcing. The government should aid such companies and offer incentives to reduce the overhead cost.

Okay this is something that is not being detected by most Americans, neither do our pathetic media. One of the most repeated things that President Obama mentions is that there is going to be no more being denied due to pre-existing conditions. Well that is not exactly true…

The 11 page proposal by President Obama which is actually a tweak of the Senate Bill, does clearly mention that CHILDREN can’t be denied healthcare because of a pre-existing condition, but the language is not so clear when it comes to adults, teenagers and seniors. It could have been very easily expanded to all classes, but simple-lettered, strong-armed laws were only available for children.

What this means is that there is going to be a minefield of legal loopholes that lawyers can exploit. Why can’t it be simply put that pre-existing condition discrimination is illegal? It was simple enough to be done for kids, so why not the rest of us? Why put in complicated measures that, with the benefit of a doubt, is meant to simply prevent and not end pre-existing condition discrimination?

In my opinion, I think it is because President Obama along with his Democrats, along with the Republicans are all sucked into this hole of lobbyists corruption. It is with lobbyist money that our politicians are being elected. That system has to change, but let me ramble about that another day.

Now on to some terms.. oh where do I start! Firstly the cost controlling factor. The only thing that they have done is say that the government now can somewhat regulate increase in interest premiums. And even for this, it is for companies that take part in the exchange. I am just not comfortable with the government coming in telling businesses how much to charge…

Where is the public option? Where is the competition? None, nothing, zero! We all have got to buy the bill but there is absolutely no measure to increase competition other than the exchange. Added to that, insurance companies now got to deal with half baked pre-existing conditions legislation, are forced to enrollee’s dependent children till the age of 26, offer preventive care and immunizations at no cost, etc… Do you know what all this would equate to Insurance companies : excuse for higher premiums!

President Obama also promised in his campaign that citizens should have the same healthcare as any member of Congress. Not really the case. Whilst this is not a lie; it sure is a misrepresentation of a promise! You see, we are not going to get the healthcare that Congress enjoys right now, but Congress would be forced to buy from the exchange, so they would be getting the healthcare that we would with the passing of this bill!

I get why young people, those who earn less and those with religious objections are exempted from buying health insurance but why is it that the Indians? I do get that we are living on their land and enjoying their fruits, but come on! If it is good for us, it is good for them!

Another thing is regarding the claim that they would increase revenue by closing the loopholes, but how exactly is not being mentioned in the text. Can the President please care to explain of this during his showdown on Thursday?

I would discuss the positives of this plan tomorrow, but I can tell you that is sure is shorter than this one!

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is now being bombarded with attacks from the Republicans on his comment “linking” slavery and the health care bill. What I would like to see, is the mettle of the Leader of the Democrats in the Senate, a good indicator for the future.

This is the exact phrase he used. “When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said slow down, it’s too early, let’s wait, things aren’t bad enough.” Now this phrase has brought about a tirade of Republican opposition to it. RNC Chairman Michael Steele has demanded an apology. Others have gone down a path of bashing, with even CNN’s David Gergen, one of television’s most respected pundits, slamming this statement.

This exposes a media double standard. When Republicans do something rough, everybody expects it to be so. When Republicans say that this Health care deal would pull the plug out of grandma, everybody was okay with it. When Governor Sarah Palin and company still has the cheek to come out and question the citizenship of President Obama, it is okay.

But when Leader Reid comes about and say that delaying health care reform is the same as delaying the abolishment of slavery, it becomes a big deal. I think this saga, along with the fact that the Tea Baggers who represent 5%pf our population gets a ton more coverage than the Public Option which is supported by 60% of the population; should shut the Conservative myth of a liberal media up.

Now, I am an Independent. I am a person that would love to see the discussion being about substance and details. I would prefer to see the discussion being set in Maine where it is more sane rather than the backdrop of the rest of the country.

But that is not how American politics work. If there are drawbacks of having a democratic system, this is it. Of course it is also fun to watch! It is the reason we are doing sites like this, to showcase our point of view in a sea of mess.

In this case, it is very interesting to see how Leader Reid is going to react to the barrage of Republican criticism. So far, he has stuck to his statement, but appear to be hushing it. This to me is the significance of Democratic weakness. Democrats shy away from a fight, Republicans take it up by its horns no matter how stupid it sounds.

To save his election next year, this is what he should do. Focus the media attention on himself. Reiterate the statement that not doing anything about this is the same as not doing anything about slavery. He is not entirely wrong, as health care would bankrupt our country by 2016 if nothing is done about it as soon as possible. The urgency is there. He should declare that. He should expose the Republican’s plan and the fact that it only covers 2 million uninsured Americans.

That is how the game should be played. But do you think he would do that? No. the reason is that Democrats are dumb! The only Democrat that knows how to fight back is Senator Alan Grayson. A good example is the “rape” bill. That is the most obvious thing for the Democrats to have pounced on, say that the Republicans voted for “rape” while Democrats voted to protect rape victims. Sounds unfair, but that is how the game is played.

Too bad for the Democrats, they do not know how to do it. Anyway, Leader Reid is an ass of a lawmaker anyway. He is way too far left and is not fit to lead a body in the Senate. His loss next year, and I predict that he will, may be devastating to the Democrats, but is inconsequential to the rest of us.

Gay marriage was put to a vote in Maine on Tuesday in a closely watched referendum that gay-rights activists across the country hoped would prove for the first time that their cause can prevail at the ballot box.

Voters had to decide whether to repeal or affirm a state law that would allow gay couples to wed. With 70 of 608 precincts reporting, the gay-marriage side had 53 percent to 47 percent for the other side.

A vote to uphold the law would mark the first time that the electorate in any state endorsed gay marriage. It would also mark the first time voters had torpedoed a gay-marriage law enacted by a legislature. Five other states have legalized gay marriage – Iowa, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Connecticut – but all did so through legislation or court rulings, not by popular vote. In contrast, constitutional amendments banning gay marriage have been approved in all 30 states where they have been on the ballot.

Hundreds of gay-marriage supporters gathered in a Portland hotel ballroom in the evening to await the results. Both sides in Maine drew volunteers and contributions from out of state, but the money edge went to the campaign in defense of gay marriage, Protect Maine Equality. It raised $4 million, compared with $2.5 million for Stand for Marriage Maine.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, voters in Washington state decided whether to uphold or overturn a recently expanded domestic partnership law that entitles same-sex couples to the same state-granted rights as heterosexual married couples.

As an Independent, there are times when I am shocked by how people can just limit their choice of vote to just two parties, when there is a better third party candidate. Whilst most media attention is concentrated around a closing of a gap by the incumbent over the challenger, there is virtually no one reporting on the independent.

Latest polls show a 43% support for Republican challenger Chris Christie, Democratic incumbent Governor John Corzine has 37% and only a sad 12% of Jerseyites support Chris Daggett. This is a classic election where we Independents pick the winner, but not one of our own. The Republicans are supporting Republicans, the Democrats are supporting Democrats. But when it comes to us, we give nearly half of our support to Christie, about a third to Governor Corzine an a pathetic sixth of our support for Chris Daggett.

Yes, we Independents are the true Americans. We are not citizens of Republicstan or Democratland. We are the ones that vote on the grounds of a good candidate and or manifesto. And there are times, like the Presidential Election in 2008, where it comes down to 2 good candidates and we choose what we feel is the better one. I myself supported President Obama over Senator McCain. I would have voted for Senator McCain if then-Senator Clinton was the Democratic nominee.

But then, there are cases like this where the top 2 on the ticked is just not competent. This race is essentially the race between the crook, the screw up and the environmentalist dude. Why is it that the poll results paint a very different picture? It really baffles and frustrates me even though I am not from New Jersey.

Chris Christie got his job by being nominated by President Bush as Attorney after the former raised money in the latter’s Presidential campaign. Smelling something fishy? The smell grows stronger and stronger when as Attorney he awarded millions of dollars worth of “no-bid” contracts again and again to people that are all closely tied to him. There are too many accusation of corruption in this guy’s history for any sound minded person to trust him!He was a lobbyist too!

Governor Corzine has had the chance to run New Jersey well and he failed miserably. If any Governor forces the state to shut down for days, then (s)he does not deserve to run it again! It is the litmus test of competency. To add on to that, increasing the sales tax is a measure that I do not support. Unlike income and corporate taxes, sales tax directly increases cost directly and is a cost multiplier with retail. His plans to increase this to balancing the books is really not acceptable.

The problem with Chris Daggett is that he is just known as Mr. Environment. All his working like has been for the environment, in both private and public sectors. But his other policies are very good with common sense measures. For example, teachers would be judged on merit and all poorer performing teachers would be weeded out. If there are not enough teachers, get it from other state or country. That is what I call common sense.

Okay Jerseyites, here are your options. Lets say you are a patient that is has a severe disease which you do not know of. Would you go to….
Doctor 1 – a doctor that is strongly suspected of selling his patients; organs. Nothing else to show that he is competent.
Doctor 2 – your current doctor that has made you more sick
or
Doctor 3 – who though specialized on heart, knows enough about everything…

The choice is yours. Please make a good one. Please vote Chris Daggett for Governor! Help spread the word.
