Ever since the oil spill there has been many questions arising about President Obama`s administration. Now there is halting approval for any new deepwater drillings and suspended the drilling of 33 new wells. The reason behind such a decision is based on the idea that it might cause another disaster. The basic question comes down to whom is passing the information to President Obama that causes him to make such decisions. Definitely he has some people commission to recommend some options to him.

He needs a reality check. No matter what we say about climate change or going green currently we still need the oil. It is the main source that keeps everything moving for now. The idea was to halt the operations for 6 months. Now let`s look at the cost factor here. If the U.S. does not get enough oil from its own land, it will have to buy more from foreign lands. The cost per barrel might go up. Once that happens the oil will be refined and sold to the public. Cost of petroleum or diesel will increase to cover the overhead cost. Who will have to bare the costs in the end? You might think that just because they are new oil projects it might not affect us, well it will.

BP has been lying about oil leak and they did not have viable solution at all. Is Obama looking into this seriously or is he just looking away. It is not necessary that BP needs to do the clean up. The U.S. government can take charge of the situation. Why does the President even bother letting BP handle the situation when they can`t even manage their own industry. The government should not have allowed BP in the first place to be in control of the situation and let commissioners from the U.S. government just sit and watch. Already this situation has caused a tragic suicide of William Allen Kruse, a 55 year old who was an Alabama charter boat captain. He was despondent over the spill and its aftermath which stressed him a lot and eventually leading to suicide. Could it get worse? Yes, now Louisiana has rain that contains oil and water.

What about Tony Hayward? Simple he does not care. What about the top executives and chief operators? Well they simply lied and are waiting for someone to do something. BP is completely lost on what to do that they are just buying time by downplaying the claims on the oil leak. The people living in Louisiana are depending on the government. The government is pointing its finger at BP. The first thing they have all to do is to be on the same side. Currently, they are all on different sides and are causing problems to one another. All of them need to be united. Everyone in this situation is awaiting one another for an answer or a solution. There are people who are doing something to prevent the oil leak from getting worse but they are getting opposed.

This situation is going to get worse. There are possibilities of more people being driven to suicide and more wildlife just disappearing.

President obama will raise the roof on Tuesday to the passing of the ground-breaking healthcare legislation, a difficult victory that will assist to shape his legacy as well as the Democrats’ likelihood of being in control in the United states Congress.
The president will be signing the bill to refurbish the $2.5 trillion health care sector afterward speak to lawmakers at a ceremony, in the climax of a year prolonged push that damaged his approval ratings.
There was an ecstatic atmosphere at the Whitehouse after the House of Representatives barely agreed the health care legislation, which analysts had strongly marked dead just a few weeks before.
President obama placed his reputation on the line as well as used all his energy into passing the bill, to the extend of canceling a intended visit to Indonesia and Australia.
His focus proceeding the matter got alot of criticism from a number of Democrats who were concerned about health care turning into a disruption from the necessity to mend the economy as well as creating jobs.
However by means of a key achievement in hand, The president will at present have the ability to oppose critics who have claim that he had not much to display for his 14 months in office.
In spite of everything, the win may possibly come with a heavy price tag. Us citizens have been halfhearted regarding health care change and Republicans look forward to take advantage of that during November’s congressional elections, during which they expect to reverse or at the very least lessen Democratic majorities in the Senate as well as the House of Representatives.
Republicans state their frustration over the bill’s passing might cause them to less likely to coordinate with Democrats on other matters like climate change legislation as well as immigration reform.
The post signing ceremony as well as a premeditated visit by the president to Iowa on Thursday will give him a opportunity to celebrate the win, furthermore attempt to convince Us citizens on the gains of the bill.
The overhaul will broaden health coverage to 32 million people, increase the government health proposal for the needy, enforce new taxes on the rich also ban insurance tactics like rejecting cover to folks with pre-existing medical conditions.
It symbolises the prime change in the system ever since the Medicare health plan for the elderly was made in 1965 and also accomplishes a goal that evaded most of Obama’s predecessors for nearly a century, which includes Bill Clinton in 1994.
Whitehouse spokesman Robert Gibbs stated that President obama intends to address frequently about healthcare throughout the months ahead.
However the bill’s passing will allow him to dedicate time to other major issues, which includes working to ensure congressional consent of a plan reform as well as tighten financial regulations.
Republicans have described the $940 billion health care a government interference into the financial system and caution that it might raise the budget deficit.
The Senate will be taking up a package of change this week that was proposed by the House to make the bill better.

The government of South Africa is going to cut Carbon emissions by a whopping 42%. China too has promised to cut her carbon emissions by 40%. But it is South Africa that is really raising my eyebrows, because, I have got to wonder, is it hot air, or a slap to the face of Western countries?

First, I would like to state the reason why I am more impressed with South Africa’s goal than I am with Chinese’ goal. Even though China has a bigger economy and is going to cut more Carbon if they succeed, they are communist. Whether or not their people like it, they can get it done as long as it is the whim and fancy of their government.

South Africa on the other hand is a free nation. It has a very good democratic system and is a large democratic state. So one would be expecting them to face the problems that other democracies are facing: opposition push back. But they did not!

US is trying to push a bill that is only going to cut emissions by 17%. And even that is too much for the right wing opposition the Republicans. It is the same with India, where the centrist Congress party is being based by the left wing socialist parties and the BJP led religious right wing. If you think Washington is bad, wait till you see the opposition to an agenda in the Indian Sabhas!

So how is this country able to get her houses in order? Is it because the 65% mandate of the ANC is enough for them while a 60% mandate would be disastrous just as it is in the United States with the Democrats? Or is it just a matter of will? The South Africans are willing to go along with it while we Americans are not…

I really feel ashamed that they can do it so easily unlike us. They are not an extremely rich country like we are. They have a higher debt vs GDP ratio than us. Their population is not so educated as us who know that the Earth is becoming warmer.

In my opinion, it is the disregard of the people over here about facts and counter checks. We do not put people in the spotlight and correct the facts. That is why there are leaders like Governor Sarah Palin, who thinks that the Earth is becoming warmer just by itself. That is why we have idiotic politicians that go on TV and can claim, “ Why is Mars and Jupiter becoming hotter? It is because the Sun is becoming hotter.” ( So I guess the Sun’s heat can only be felt by 3 out of eight of the planets for this guy! FYI, he is right but the rest of the planets are in sync with the Sun and is cooling due to the Sun’s cooling phase).

Come on America. We have single-handedly won 2 world wars. We have single handedly propped countries economies up; countries like Japan, Germany, South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, these countries all were literally built from the rubbles of war by the taxes of our forefathers. We are the beacon of hope and freedom. We even are the pioneers of green technology.

So Yes we can cut down out carbon emissions by more than the pathetic goal of 17% that the President has set. The Republicans should be demanding a higher percentage rather than claiming that climate change does not exist and that efforts to curb it would result in a loss of jobs. Lets rally and do the impossible, something only Americans can do.

President Obama is going to attend the last few days of the climate change summit in Copenhagen. This could be Kyoto once again, where the President was in favor of climate change regulation, but the Congress shot it down.

Firstly, let me make it clear. Climate change is a reality. The very fact that there would not be ice sheet in the Arctic region and that companies are planning to use it as a sea route should be proof that it is real. When islands literally would disappear (Maldives), you know it is real. When coastlines are encroaching land (Philippines, Bangladesh, Western India), you know that it is real. Just because some hoaxers come up and give nonsense about them hacking climate change e-mails, it does not mean that climate change is fake.

So I am for solving the problem of climate change. I am not however, accepting that taxing carbon is the way to go. Should we tax carbon, it would just encourage corporations to change only if it is financially viable. It can be worked round. We are human beings, we would always find a way out.

I would rather prefer regulations with muscle. For example, lets ban plastic bags already! We could use paper bags that we did in the 60s. We should ban plastic bottles in favor of the greener Tetra packs. We can demand that all vehicles be 25% cleaner within 5 years. It is these kind of tough regulations that would force the industries to be energy efficient.

That is the main reason my support for the ACES bill is not a strong one. Another concern I have is that we cannot afford it. The government is literally offering options that can provide green energy rebates that are so large, that corporations can technically give free of charge “green” electricity to the populace and still make money!

That being said, I think that the President is really playing a sorry game over here. While the Democrats may be the ones controlling the house this time, they are weak and pathetic. They do not have the muscle that they require. They would lose the climate bill as much as they are losing the health care debate today. The Republicans would not allow the President Obama to have the bill either.

That is why, I think that the President should be making concerted efforts locally rather than internationally. He should be banging on the doors of his Democrats and get his left wing base ready. He should be talking to us Independents rather than talking to the Republicans about having climate change regulation. If it is to include more tax breaks kind of ideas, I would be pist!

I think that President Obama is really putting his foot in his mouth should he makes any kind of commitment in Copenhagen. It would be stupid to the max! He really should know that he does not have any leverage to make promises such as this.

At best, he can only make promises about helping to create green jobs. And for that, we do not need to send our President over there. We still have a Secretary of State right? Let her do all this. We still have the Environmental Protection agency right? Send them instead please.

I really think that it would be embarrassing that our President went overseas when everyone know that he cannot pull it off at home. I hope he proves me wrong though!

I am an environmentalist. I strongly believe that the Earth is becoming warmer due to the actions of human beings. It is a no-brainer. Animals are reacting to the heat. Ice is breaking up at the poles and nations are also preparing to sail across the North Pole in the future. Yes, there would not be land for ships to go across, there would just be a sea in the summer.

Some people that claim that the earth is becoming warmer because the sun is becoming warmer is also not true. There are many solar cycles that affect heat. Solar cycles have been around for millenniums and does not have that much effect on our lives in history. In fact, we are at the cooling end of most solar cycles.

Even if we are going to use the most radical theory, Scafetta & West, theory, it only accounts for half the rise in temperature is accorded for. The other half is made by human beings. And that is the most radical theory. Other similar theory show numbers as low as 0.07%. Either way, we are the culprits. The temperature rises in a similar pattern to the rise of carbon particles in the air. I accept this fact.

However, taxing carbon would not do anything to solve the problem. Lets take cigarettes as an example. Cigarettes are generally taxed all over the world in higher amounts than most other goods. Yet we do not see the drop in the number of people smoking. Neither do we see less people dying of smoking related diseases.

In the same way, the Carbon tax would not work. Taxes do not work well as deterrence. There are there to earn revenue for the state or nation to run. Can some body please tell neo-liberal Representative Barbara Boxer that. She is helping write legislation to do this as soon as possible.

What would happen after a tax hike in carbon is that there would be an initial drawback away from oil to be used as energy. Due to the free market, that would result in a fall of oil prices. This spike and decrease would come almost instantaneously, we are talking in terms of weeks for it to happen. That would mean that the primary source of energy in the end of the day would still be oil.

This really cannot be done in this manner. Taxation would not solve problems, regulation on the other hand can. There are so many things that can be done at an executive level to save the earth. Let me give you a few examples.

Lets ban plastic bags. In Asia and other parts of the world, paper bags and cloth bags were the normal thing used in supermarkets till 1970s. Lets make paper bags and cloth bags a norm again and only use plastic bags in absolutely necessary situations.

Lets ban plastic milk and other edible liquid cartons. Lets use packs of milk, which many companies are doing around the world, that are made of paper or materials that does aseptic processing. I know that aseptic processing needs ¼ of the mass of the product top be made of plastics, the mass is still very much lesser than the amount of mass of plastic needed to house the same volume of liquid by having a plastic container.

There are so many other ways which I think that the world can come up with. If you guys got any ideas, please type them down below in the comments section. Lets show the world that we can do this and come up with ideas to battle climate change.

We need this to be an effort based on science and legislation, not on liberal and conservative ideologies.

This has been going on for so long. People are always being told to off the lights when nobody is around. We have been told not to use plastic bags as they cannot be disintegrated for 1000 years. We have been told to use catalytic converters to cut down emissions coming from the cars.

The problem with this method is very simple : People do not listen! How many kids would not eat too much candy after they are told not to? How many people jay walk when they are told not to? In the same way, people may agree with the message that we need to take measures to save the Earth like they agree that smoking is bad for health, but they are not willing to change their bad habit. It is just human nature!

For how long more must we go about preaching to this choir? Can people recognize already that this method is not going to work. It is like preaching abstinence to prevent HIV/AIDS, people just would not listen.

Time is running out on Earth. I am no scientist but when I see coastlines in Eastern India receding 20 meters after 5 years, I know there is something wrong. When my friend see that coral reefs in Australia are no longer there where he saw them 8 years ago, he knows there is something wrong. When there are record heat temperatures coming every few years and the average temperature from 2000-2007 is 2.2 degrees Celsius higher than those from 1990-1999, you know that there is something wrong. We really need to do something quick.

I feel that it is time to look at this problem at the macro level and abandon looking at it at a micro level. We should be thinking of how nations become carbon free and not how an individual can lower down their carbon emission.

It is not like there are no good examples to follow already. There are countries like the UAE that are creating green cities where all energy used would be created from green sources such as solar panels and wind turbines. There are countries that are already 100% running on green energy, the best example being Iceland which runs on geo-thermal energy.

I feel that this should be a government initiative. For example, get governments to ban plastic bags already. Lets only use plastic bags when we have to. Lets resort to paper bags which would require trees.

Lets force cattle farms who are responsible for so much of our greenhouse emissions to grow plots of bamboo to counter carbons that they release. Let countries like Australia to shift from beef to kangaroo meat as mass to mass, kangaroos belch much less than cows.

Lets go all out on nuclear power. Nuclear power is clean today. It would not be a long term solution as uranium would run out one day but it can buy us time. It is high time that countries like the United States and Russia that has a lot of Uranium to start using it to harness energy and not upgrade their nuclear weapons.

A tax on carbon would not be that great an effect. This is because people would get use to it and pay for the tax. It also places too much burden on the consumer. I believe that we should rather ban some items outright.

Lets work together to save our earth. I think the world should take part in the global initiative on 28th March, but let it be an election and not a solution. Let it be a message to politicians all around the world, we are ready to save our Earth.
