Mark Sanford hit

It is now official. Governor Mark Sanford has been hit hard by the South Carolina’s ethics commission. He has been hit with a whopping 37 counts of violating state law ethics. The charges show that this is nothing but a political assassination of Governor Sanford.

Before I carry on, I would declare that I am not a fan of Governor Mark Sanford. I look at him as a typical politician on the right wing side of the aisle. He is part of a typical kind of political dose that is really burning this country up, something which an Independent like me does not like.

However, I do not think he did anything wrong when he had an affair with the Argentinian reporter. It is really not a benchmark of a great leader . Cleopatra slept with many men, yet she is still probably the greatest leader that Egypt ever had. President Clinton was anytime a greater leader than President Bush even though he was a blatant adulterer.

I am also disgusted by the manner that this political assassination is being carried out. In politics, when the tide is good for you, people hang around you like leeches; they want to bask in your glory. When the tide changes, you are dropped like a bowling ball. Right now, the Republicans are trying to distance themselves as far as possible from this guy.

The charges back this. They are charging him for taking a flight to see President’s Obama inauguration using his campaign’s money. Come on! You tell me that they did not know this for several months? You think they did not know that he was flying to political gatherings (I wonder which party’s political gathering did he go to…?) for YEARS? Nobody knew about this? You think nobody knew that he was taking business class international flights? Come on!

And all of a sudden, after his affair became public became public all this information comes out. Suddenly, he has gone from bring Republican governor that was supposed to be challenging President Obama in 2012 to being the Republican Party’s pariah boy. Suddenly, he got from commanding respect to being threatened by his Lieutenant Governor to quit or pay the consequences.

We cannot allow this to happen! What he has done is not comparable to what Governor Rod Blagojevich or Governor Elliot Spitzer has done. They committed crimes, which we hope that nobody knew. Is Governor Sanford’s offense anyhow as serious as these people’s offenses?

I do understand that if I were a prosecutor in charge of this case, I would have no choice but to go after the Governor. But I would also go after each and every person that knew about the Governor doing all this for allowing a crime to happen and not reporting it at the appropriate time. I would follow the book completely.

I do not want our country to be more of a political circus than it already is! We cannot allow one person to punished by the law and the rest escape Scott-free. Enough is enough! We cannot allow a Lieutenant Governor to threaten his boss in the manner Lt. Governor Andre Bauer has. That is outright disgusting!

If people want to start making accusations, they better ensure that they are not breaking the rules or the law themselves! People who live in glass houses should not throw stones!

This is the worst example of waste I have ever heard of! Thomson Reuters, the news mega giant and one of the 4 news real agencies in America, did this study and found that the governments waste up to 800 billion this year. Yes it is billion, with a freaking b!

37% of the waste is to have protection against malpractice suits. 22% is just wasted fraud, where are the Feds!? Aren’t they supposed to settle this? Having a rigid paper system alone wastes up to $60 billion a year! Administrative inefficiency and medical mistakes take up 18% and 11% respectively. What are we thinking wasting all this money away!

$800 billion. What was our government and our Presidents doing the last 10 years? Was President Clinton too busy with interns in the Oval Office? Was President Bush just too dumb not to understand how big $800 billion was.

$800 billion, that is close to the cost of the stimulus package, every year. $800 billion, that is higher than the defense budget. $800billion, that is more than what we gave out to corporations via TARP last year. It is bloody insane that this had gone unnoticed!

The best part is that Reuters reports that there is at least $505 billion in wastage every year. So we are wasting at least half a trillion a year! I really though that the President was exaggerating it when he said that we could save half a trillion in Medicare by cutting wastes, but he was proven right!

There is also the perspective of the national debt here. $500 billion may be today’s figure, but I bet that we have wasted $2.5 trillion in the last ten years. If we are to include long term interest, we are going to get the figure to be around $3trillion. And that is at the lowest end of the spectrum.

Do you know what does this mean? It means that all the while health care has all along been the huge component of the national deficit. All the while everybody, including me, had been ignoring these numbers at our own peril! We must wake up to this!

The report also suggests that $1 out of every $3 of our health care bill is a waste. $1 in $3! Can you imagine what would happen if this kind of wastage happens outside government? I sure know that my boss would fire me if I wasted that ratio of office funds!

Where in the world are the other so called news agencies in America reporting this? Where is FOX News, MSNBC, CNN, HLN, PBS and so on. Isn’t this the top news? What can be bigger than this? Hillary Clinton, Balloon Boy hoax, ACORN (guess which channel still runs that nonsense?) or the LA Dodger’s divorce? Why don’t they report this at all?

It is time that we hang place politicians feet by the fire! Having entire bodies of Congress ignoring this is next to treason to me! It really appalls and offends me! That being said, we should give credit where it is due and we would like to thank our President for bringing this up.

Frank Gaffney hate speech…

For a person that is rarely talked about the media, I think that people might be in shock that Frank Gaffney has is being mentioned again. We stress that this is not a repeat hit at him and is something new..

A couple of days ago we commented of Frank Gaffney’s terrible television appearance on FOX News.. In that piece, he claimed that the problem is that Muslims are adhering to Sharia and it is a “virus that is far more toxic than swine flu”. Sharia to the Muslims is what the 10 commandments are to the Christians. They are forced to believe it.

So that was bad enough. But at the Take America Back Conference, he really upped the hatred. He answered a very simple and over-asked question in such a manner that really stirs trouble. The question was : “I was wondering what you considered (President) Obama’s religion was … if you considered him a Muslim…?”

So what do you think he said? Do you think he answered the manner that Senator McCain did in his Presidential campaign last year? Or did he gave the perfect answer General Colin Powell gave in that same campaign? No.

“If Bill Clinton … was properly called the first Black American President, on that same basis (President) Barack Obama should be called a Muslim American President. I am not saying that he is a Muslim any more than saying Bill Clinton was Black but there is evidence that a lot of Muslims think that he is a Muslim…. he (President Obama) (is) pursuing an agenda that is indistinguishable in important respects from that of the Muslim brotherhood whose mission is… ‘to destroy Western civilization from within….”

Firstly, Muslim brotherhood out to destroy America? Talk about equating all Muslims with Al Qaeda members and terrorists! Aren’t there Christians that think that the Bible and laws of Christianity should be running our country? Aren’t there crazy generals who think that they are fighting for Christ in the Middle East? Can we, because of such people, generalize all Christians as radicals? No! There are crazies in all religions. I would agree that there is a higher concentration of it in the Islamic world, but majority of Muslims are just normal people.

Didn’t he say that President Obama is “pursuing the same agenda” which he stated later as to be “ to destroy Western Civilization from within”. In effect, he is saying that President Obama’s goal is to destroy America and western culture by coming from it. This joker from a think tanks is essentially mentioning an American intentionally becoming President so that he can burn it to the ground!

How in the world is he getting away with this? When will humanity learn to detect hate speech and its danger? We ignored Hitler’s hatred for the Jews and 6 million died. We ignored Hutu hate radio speeches and at least 500 000 died. What Frank Gaffeny said is definitely hate speech in those categories. I even go as far as to say that his loathe for Muslims is as much as Al Qaeda’s hate for America. He is poison and we got to stop it before it escalates.

Republicans have been rubbishing claims of hate speech and said that it is just opposition. Michael Steele even went to call people who see these threats as nut-jobs. It is not opposition when people are claiming that the President is an enemy of the state, not born in the US, inhuman, racist, portrayed as a monkey or a “n****r from Africa”. It is a problem when there are suggestions of a religion out there to destroy America (think Hitler and Judaism), or when coups are suggested. There are also problems if you dream up scenarios of President Obama being assassinated even if you claim not to be violent.

The hate is there and we need to get to the bottom of this. Else America would burn. We, and not the Muslims, would be “destroying America from within.”

In the toughest of times, gay marriage is able yet again to creep into the headlines yet again thanks to former President Bill Clinton. I covered it this time because we noted that there were more Americans than we thought that had the same mentality as I do. And it is something that neither opponents or supporters of Proposition 8 would like…

Let me be clear, the person who influenced me with is Governor Jesse Ventura. I think it is he that came up with this concept.. We should be banning marriage outright and replacing all marriages that we have with civil unions!

I remember voicing out this position earlier and was rather ridiculed for it. But right now, following the blogs and comments on news site, our alternative does not sound so ridiculous anymore. Some of “my” people that would think of it being in terms of this being part of big government versus small government. The reason for my stance though is different.

I agree with people that claim that marriage is a religious and a cultural affair. That is why there are different rituals for different kind of marriages. Most Christians take their vow before a priest and are pronounced married. Russian Orthodox Christianity requires them to drink wine, while the Jews would have to break glasses. Hindus walk round a fire seven times to get married and Muslims tell it to their Imam. If marriage were the same shouldn’t the rituals be the same.

In fact, there are different laws for different kinds of groups within our country itself. Muslim men and some Christians are allowed to practice polygamy while it is a crime for others to do so. There are even some Tibetan customs that requires polyandry and are recognized in this country. Even some Christian sects allow all kinds of marriage and some allow only hetro-sexual marriage.

So why is there a ban on gay marriage? Three of the biggest religions in America are Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Majority of their sects consider homosexuality a sin. Hence, by forcing marriage as a whole to be forcefully recognized by all religions, we are infringing on their religious rights. By not allowing two Buddhists to marry in a Buddhist ceremony, we are also infringing on their rights as well.

So what should we do? Why in the world is the government coming into religion and telling us what we can and cannot believe in our religion? If we believe that marriage is to be only between a man and a woman., let us believe so. If we believe that marriage can be gay, let us believe so. Isn’t freedom of religion a tenet of American freedom.

But the government should grant us the rights of civil unions with our partners. We need them. For example, when a person dies without the will, a spouse should have the right to claim the property and the kids. As of now, it is the parent or the sibling of a gay individual that would get it. There is also the topic if divorce and separation settlements that gays cannot have.

So basically, we want the term marriage today to be converted into civil unions. Hence, the churches and mosques can have their religious rights protected and can kick gays out of their religion. Gays can enjoy equal rights while the religious institutions can ensure that gays not get married. Of course, the crazy right-wingers would go crazy with this and many gays would not be happy with it either. But as a whole, I think that this is a good compromise with both sides having their way.

Personally, I used to be against gay marriage. That changes while I was in the Army. I knew gay soldiers and I realized that they weren’t the sissy-boy perverts that I thought them out to be when I was younger. They are just like any other soldier, like any other human being. That is why I am okay with them marrying each other.

Back off the “cheaters”

I have taken heat over my defense of Governor Mark Sanford over his affairs. I do understand that female readers would be livid with what I am going to write in this article; but that does not make me a sexist or a chauvinist.

Having come from a prim and proper family, I may not know what it feels like for someone to cheat on you. I have never had that bad experience in my love life either. But that does not mean that I do not understand what the family and the wife go through should the man cheat. It is hell I get it. I get that the man can be scorned by the wife, the kids and to a lesser extent, the society.

However, the one area that I think that promiscuity should have no effect, is in the workplace. A person that is divorced or is a playboy outside the office, should not be discriminated. A person that cheats on his wife should never be viewed as a person that is not able to do their job. That is also true when it comes to public office.

So I am again on the defense when Governor Mark Sanford is basically being threatened by his Lieutenant Governor, Andre Bauer. He is told to quit within the month. I think that that is disgusting. So what if he has cheated on his wife? That is the charge that he should step down with?

Republicans also point out to claims that Governor Sanford took state money for trips. But these are just claims! It is not a straight-forward thing. It is not a 100% certainty. If he is proven guilty, impeach him (if he is still around) and fine him to get back the money. Till then, nobody should have the right to make such threats as Lieutenant Governor did. I am still perplexed that a Lieutenant Governor has the cheek to issue such an ultimatum. I say this even though I am not a fan of Mark Sanford.

The second person that I would like to defend is Senator John Edwards. Liberals have gone berserk over him planning to marry his ugly mistress should his wife lose her battle with cancer. Look, I really like Elizabeth Edwards. I think that she would have made a very goody first lady and a good role model. I also think that Senator Edwards suck at being a Senator and should never be the American President.

But that does not mean that the intentions of Senator Edwards was bad or evil. I really do not see what the big deal is? Is it because he does not want to divorce his angelic wife? Is it because he would have caused trauma to his kids? Even if it were so, it is none of our business!Let them have his head.

It should also not be just for men. I KNOW that women would definitely have a harder time should they have committed adultery. I think that that is wrong too. The lady can sleep with a different man or woman every night for all I care, as long as she is doing her job well.

I think we Americans should really treat competence over values, as of now it is the other way around. Haven’t we learn from the examples of the previous 2 Presidents? President Clinton left with budget surpluses, while President Bush left us with a lot of problems on our plate. I hope that we never have to find out the hard way again, why it is so important to value competence rather than to caste it aside for values.
