Leave Huckabee alone!

What in the blue hell is wrong with America? We have four of the nation’s police officers shot down in cold blood by a mentally sick man who thinks he is Jesus and that he was fighting a holy war; and we have the Democrats attacking Governor Mike Huckabee for commuting his sentence.

Come on! When is the political bickering going to end? When all the Republicans shoot the Democrats or vice versa? OR should the Independents start a missionary like movement to convert Republicans and Democrats to what they are supposed to be : American!

Firstly, if former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee really did commit the mistake of signing this person’s release, is it really a crime? Is he really the person to blame for the death of the police officers? No! Before a commutation, there are a lot of levels of recommendations. They always say that it is a (female dog) to get a parole from the parole board. At worst, it is just a mistake.

However, I do not think he made the mistake at all! I think that Governor Huckabee is right that this guy should not be in jail; he should be in a freaking mental institution. Look at his record. He thinks he can freaking fly!. He thinks that he is Jesus. He told his relatives that it is a must to be naked for five minutes on Sunday! How much more evidence do people need that this man is insane.

I also would like to an example out of this incident to be made out for the families. His family knew that he is insane. They knew that he had a criminal past. Why didn’t they call in help before. I think they are more at fault for the death of the four brave police officers than Governor Mike Huckabee ever was!

We need to let people get the message that if you think that your peer or family member is crazy, it is better to make a false report than to let a mental person be without help. Had that have happened, neither this incident, nor the Fort Hood massacare would have taken place.

Judging by the reactions on the Internet, I think that those African Americans that are speaking anything but horror about this incidents, should be ashamed of themselves. Being Asian American, I know how it feel when it comes to racism. Are police apprehensive when it comes to Black people, yes.

But this is a tragedy, anyway we see it. This is not a payback for any policy of the Police. The main objective of the Police is not to harm and target, it is to serve and to protect. The Police is not the Al Qaeda, that is out to kill Americans.

When is it that we are going to be sane and look at a problem with sense in America? This is another great example. Rather than talking about gun control and mental health issues we are arguing about whether Governor Mike Huckabee is guilty and whether the police department deserves it! We need to get these people in check!

Lastly, can anybody tell me why is it that the Police are holding up the siege of this person in the house? Aren’t they supposed to be better in Urban Operations as compared to the soldiers? Can’t they gas him out or something like that? This is not a suggestion, I really would want to know from the public why the police is taking their time to get this murderous insane human being.

We at Slasing Tongue would like to send our condolences to the families of the victims and their brother officers. ST would also like to salute Sgt. Mark Renninger; Officer Ronald Owens; Officer Tina Griswold; and Officer Greg Richards, 42 for serving our country.

Ban tasers till proven safe!

Yet another innocent kid has died from tasers. In this case, officers were chasing Victoria Steen down when they felt that they needed to taser him from their moving vehicle. Be it the lack of training, or the fact that tasers are too dangerous, I think that tasers should be banned for the time being. We need to study it more.

It is very sad that a kid died for nothing. Yes, if he had not been running away from the cops, he could have been alive today. Why was he running? Did he really have something to hide? Was he peddling drugs or something? Your guess is as good as mine.

But the fact is, we do not know, and therefore should have assumed that he was innocent. He could have been running away from the cops because he was scared of them. Many Latino and African Americans run when they see the cops coming into their communities. And that should not lead to police officers tasering him.

Yes, if the cops were better trained, they could have kept their tasers in check and Mrs Steen could still see her “baby” sleep in his bed that night. For God’s sake, they were in their patrol cars and this kid was in his bicycle. They could have caught up with the boy in minutes or seconds if they wanted to. There was no need for them to be tasering the kid.

Yes, if the cop did not carry the taser, there could be less incidents like this. Do not get me wrong. I do understand that these cases of taser deaths form a very small percentage of tasers being used. However, I feel that it is a small percent too many.

I also do understand that tasers can be used to save lives. There can be a situation where a mentally challenged individual could put somebody’s life at risk. And rather than shooting the person, the cops could taser that individual. I get that and I support its existence.

What I do not want is to let it lead to unnecessary death. Be it because cops are not well trained enough to understand that the taser is meant to be a fire-arm substitute. They should only use a taser now when they used a gun in the past. They should not use it outside that jurisdiction. I do not think that they would have open fire at the kid, if they only had guns and not tasers.

I do not want a taser to electrocute suspects to deaths too. I am sure that our police officers do not intend to kill people with their taser. There are cases where repeated tasing would kill suspects or when the product releases more current / voltage than it should.

Lastly, where are the Black leaders in this matter?Where is Reverend Al Sharpton and Reverend Jesse Jackson? Why is it that they are not out there representing their people by bridging the differences with the cops? Why haven’t they told their kids in school that when you see a policeman, do not run!? How many “accidents” must happen for them to be aware of this simple measure that could save lives?

Please, lets study tasers to see if they are as non lethal as it could be and create proper training for our cops to use it. Something must be wrong when there is incident after incident of people dying due to tasers. That is not “to serve and protect.”

I waited till the speech was made to make my call so as to study the body language. I have viewed it many times. This in spite of already reading it many times over. And the conclusion that I come to is this : The Right should apologize to President Obama.

There are a few things I would like to cover here. First, I would go about the contents of the speech. Next, I would take the controversy and lastly I would like to address parental concern.

The contents of the speech was as harmless as it can come. It was a very simple speech. It was about asking the kids of today to stay in school. He told the kids that he too made mistakes and the importance of education.

I feel that this speech was modeled for minorities. All of the positive examples he brought up are minorities. Minorities also tend to have issues (not that White people do not have them) such as single parents, high drop-out rates and tendency to talk back to teachers at school and what the Presidents said was what so many teachers told my friends so many times : It is no excuse. Especially for the African American population, President Obama is a considered a role model and sometimes having a role model saying this might change a person’s life.

The entire controversy was about the lesson plan. It was about the simple question : What can you do to help President Obama? Had there not been a soap opera nonsense that took place, it would have been a brilliant way to get kids to write their ideas down. I would bet that they would have written about big plans and, lets face it, many silly ideas.

“Do not give up on yourself.” That was the correct answer to the essay question. Yes, if you want to say that President Obama ripped this out of an old story, you are right. I recall my Jewish friend telling me a similar wise story in class in High School in a different context. This also justifies President Obama’s innocence in the “charge” of indoctrination.

I cannot remember what President HW Bush said to us when I was in school. However, this speech with the lesson plan would have been something that many pupils would never have forgotten for the rest of their lives. Like I have not forgotten what my Jewish friend said years ago. (Thanks R.M).

The Right wing has spoilt that experience with the garbage of political attacks. I think that they should apologize. It is one thing to say what you feel, it is another to slander others. They should not go about accusing without evidence and force the other side to prove otherwise. For example, if I go about saying that Governor Palin has hired hit-men to kill David Letterman; without backing it up; it is wrong and silly; like the charge of indoctrination.

There are some parents who feel that they should be informed first. There is a fine line to be drawn between concern and paranoia. For example, my mum literally dragged my teenage behind out of my friends’ house,by the ears, home to study for a test the next day rather than play Sega Saturn at their place. That is tough love.

But if you are going to pull your kids out of class because you think that they should not be taught about evolution, you stepped over the line. Curriculum should not be dictated by parents just as road planning should not be done by drivers. Children should be taught what they need to know, not what the parents think the child needs to know. In the same way, if you want to step in because you did not want your kid to be motivated by the President, you are paranoid.

Lastly, I would like to share another personal story. A police commissioner once came in to my middle school gave a talk. He warned us about sexual predators and other kinds of people to avoid and to say no to drugs. My parents never knew about it. If that is called indoctrination, I think it is of a good kind. Just like what President Obama did.

MJ mania waltzes into politics

We really tried very hard not to comment on Micheal Jackson’s death. We felt that the death of Michael Jackson should be private and hence we did not write anything about it. But then, this has now gone into the realm of politics in such a bizarre fashion thanks to Representative Peter King of New York.

The world has seen what Representative Peter King said with regards to Michael Jackson. My reaction to that was that he could say whatever he wanted but I would not agree with him. But why did he have to call him a child molester? That unnecessary started a chain of unnecessary events.

African Americans love Michael Jackson. It was Michael Jackson that put a Black image on the map. He was a worldwide media icon and entered a league of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley when it comes to being a phenomenon. There were only Whites before he came along. Everybody wanted to be Michael Jackson in his hey day. You could be a waiter from Beijing, China to millionaire in Dakar, Senegal; you were a Michael Jackson. He did it first, what Michael Jordan and President Obama did later.

I do not think that he is a person that was responsible for breaking the barriers for Black people, I think he was the first one to walk through it. After all the hard work done by the civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King in the past that broke the barriers down, Michael Jackson justified their success in ways the they could not imagine. Was he important? To some extent, yes. However, I think that somebody else could have broken that barrier too with sheer brilliance. It was just that Michael Jackson did it first.

I agree with Representative King that he spoke what many Americans thought of Michael Jackson. But by calling a Black icon who died a week or so away a pedophile, you knew you would be asking for trouble. He should have expected African Americans to snap in their emotional state. And they did.

He is now being called a racist by some members National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Come on! What he said was wrong but it was not racist! If he said that about a White guy, he would have been equally wrong. People should not equate a person of minority being wronged with that person being a victim of racial harassment.

I also think that there is also this element of jumping on the opportunity to get their five minute of fame from all corners here. Did anyone know who Representative King was before this? It was also good for people like Representative Bobby Rush and Hazel Dukes. Who ever heard of them before? And you know what, the media have allowed them to succeed.

For the record, I do not think that Michael Jackson was a pedophile. I am not that big of a fan but I liked some of his earlier works.
