Free is something that is an American gift to the rest of the world. It has become a cornerstone of Democracy and the first sign of Democracy stumbling is when free speech is extremely curbed. It is most certainly true that if you cannot say what is on your mind, what else can you do?

Then again, if there is speech that is hateful and can spew anger and violence it should be banned or dealt with severely. We cannot allow another Adolf Hitler who was brilliant with speeches to get away with Antisemitism, neither could we allow people to burn Blacks again just for the sake of being Black.

The tough part about free speech is the middle. I would do this in terms of examples. E.g. Sarah Palin said in the Presidential Election campaign last year that then-Senator Obama was “palling around with terrorists.” I felt that that really crossed the line as much as if someone told her, “Hey you are sleeping with one.” It was one that created a pool of hate and bigotry that I feel cannot be tolerated.

But there would be people who said that both comments would be deemed okay as it is free speech. As long as they can argue their side out better than the other, there would be no harm done at all. This middle line is not so bad as there is not much mention of violence and hatred.

That is a different issue when it comes to talk show radio hosts like Glen Beck, Ed Schultz and in particular, Rush Limbaugh. Who can forget Glen Beck showing President Obama and some of his staff shown as vampires and (later) said that the only way to stop them is to stab them. That is a classic example of something that would be of a debate.

I think that Glenn Beck should be punished for that as there was actual depiction of violence. He was implying that the President should be stopped by any means necessary including stabbing. Some people might say that it was a wrong choice of words and that Glen Beck did not mean harm and that in the end of the day it is free speech.

The last example I would site before I go on the the subject of this is that of Bill Maher. Bill Maher have gone through so much trouble for his tongue, but I tolerate most of them. I am a fan whereas many would feel that he always step out of line. But when he said that the terrorists were brave but stupid after 9/11, if felt that HBO did the right thing by firing him for that statement.

As some of you would guess by now, I am going to talk about the ban of Michael Savage in the United Kingdom. UK is banning him from entering as he is a person that they feel that would not be good for them.

Is Michael Savage a person that is divisive or one sided? Yes I think he is. Though there would be many that agree with me that the list would be a joke if he is on it and Jay Severin is not. If there is anybody that should be on that list, it is that racist.

I would like to state that though I disagree with his views, I think that it is his right to do so. I have yet to hear him say something like stabbing President Obama or murdering the Mexicans, hence a person that is just airing his view and not really causing violence and hatred.

My worry is that if the Britons could now decide what kind of speech they think is right or wrong. What if they feel that this site is a site that is something that they do not like, would they ban this site too?

In the end of the day, I think that people should be empowered to do what they want. But to quote from Spiderman “With great power comes great responsibility.” I think that we should be responsible for what we say and if we say something wrong, we should be punish. But what is right and wrong is something that is very subjective.

I think that life is like that. We are free to do many things that we want, but we got to pay a price for something we do wrong. I do not think that Michael Savage should not be punished but then again that is just my own opinion.
