The National Rifle Association is fighting for people on the terror-watch list to own guns. Many members of the terror watch list are not even permitted to be passengers on planes, but more than 80% of them could buy a gun when they wanted to!

Before, I go on writing this article, I would like to make somethings clear. I am not a bit of a fan of guns at all. I think that they do not belong to a society at all. I would give some leeway to difference of thought when it comes to self protection with a handgun, but I do not tolerate GPMGs, AK-47s, grenades or M16s in neighborhoods at all.

But has the NRA gone nuts?! To me, this action equates to suspect pedophiles giving one to one tuition to minors. I equate this to allowing suspect arsonists buying flame throwers. This is seriously disturbing. Fighting the right for a suspect terrorist to buy 50lb of explosives? How in the hell are you going to defend that? They need bombs for self protection?

The NRA claims that people cannot be stripped of their rights just because they are on the terror lists. Well, they must be! If they cannot get from point A to point B by plane, how can they have a gun or bomb. They have their phones tapped without a warrant and people watching them (invasion of privacy), especially if they give sermons or speak out.

If someone feels that they are being wronged, they should not fight for their 2nd Amendment rights; they should fight not to be on that list! Isn’t that common sense? It would be like Jews fighting to be artists in Nazi Germany, rather than fighting Nazi oppression.

Look, I trust the US intelligence agencies. Yes, we know that they have made mistakes in their past and I still do not agree with water-boarding or Guantanamo Bay, but I would still trust the agencies. I think that we should be so conspiratorial. Lets give people doing their jobs the benefit of the doubt, but lets voice our opinion on matters that they are wrong in.

The issue though would blow out to be just about politics. That is sad. The Republicans would fight tooth and nail for the NRA and the Democrats would make them out to be Satans. How many times have we heard stupid rumors that President Obama was going to take away your guns?

You really want to know how hypocritical politics is: We should torture people that we think are terrorists, but they should have the right to have guns and explosives. This is the Republican version of the ACLU stopping people from exercising their right to free speech to protest against illegal immigration!

I really hope that we are going to approach matters from a point of common sense and not party affiliations.

Mark Sanford : Overreaction

Other than Iran, this is one story that has been grabbing headlines today. Yet another politician bites the apple of Eden. Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina joins the list that includes : President Bill Clinton, Senator Larry Craig, Governor Elliot Spitzer, Senator John Ensign

I understand why some media and news agencies tend to go after Republicans more often than they do go after Democrats. Democrats boast less of a family values platform than the Republicans. Hence, there is a moment where some would call hypocrisy being caught or what others may term as gotcha journalism.

This is very true in this case with Governor Sanford. He was a very vocal opponent of President Clinton when he had his ‘tour’ of infidelity. To be fair though, he did not make up any stories about his whereabouts and he was more concerned with the President lying a decade ago. But now I think he can understand why President Clinton cheated then!

I also find it hypocritical of the same Democrats that were protecting Presidential Clinton to be going after Governor Sanford for doing the same thing. Hasn’t been just over a decade ago when they were jumping up and down about this? They seem to have the first symptoms of political “cancer” : short term memory and a thick skin.

America has been through so much as a nation, can’t her citizens just tolerate some vices of one another. We tolerate some of us drinking, smoking or even marijuana; why can we allow people to make human mistakes?

It is not only in America that politicians cheat. France is a great example. After their last elections, President Szarkozy dumped his wife for a supermodel and his main opponent Segone Royal too divorced her husband accusing him of adultery. It happens everywhere. Why is it that Americans are the ones that are more concerned about it than other countries? I find that rather fascinating.

I would be consistent with Governor Sanford as I am with President Clinton. I do not see this as being an issue for him running for President. Though I prefer people like Senator Chuck Hagel on being the Republican Presidential nominee in 2012, I do not think that Governor Sanford should be disqualified from it just because he cheated on his wife?

Isn’t Jack Nicholsen still a great actor even though he has slept with more than 2000 women? Wouldn’t it be a shame that we asked President Obama to resign if he cheated on Michelle? Hell, we would not care if our CEO sleep with a new woman every week as long as he make lots for the company and pay us well!

Another angle of viewing this is that I think that if Governor Sanford was a woman, I do not think that the would have shown any mercy at all (not that they are showing him a lot right now). That also reflects a lot on the kind of society that we live in do we?

I am also hoping to get a hopeless romantic version of this. I can bet with my readers right now that down the road there would be a movie made on this. It is amazing that there are still people that actually believes in fairy tales and all those romantic novels!

Lets give Governor Sanford a break man. Let his wife eat him alive with her nagging! Live and let live. Please let us concentrate on the politics.

What gays and lesbians should do…

They lost the election by a small margin and lost a Californian Supreme court case of defining marriage as between a man and a woman. I understand that the gay community will feel devastated and I hope that these suggestions could help them.

Before that I would like to state my position on this matter. I am for gay marriage. I think there is nothing wrong if a man marries a man or a woman marries a woman. Though I am not gay and would not kiss a man for a million dollars, I seriously do not see what is wrong with a gay person. A gay friend is no difference to me than a straight friend.

I am against the courts reversing the order made by the Californians during the November 08 elections last year though. That is because, to me, the greatest asset one can have in a Democracy in the vote of the people. I fully support people’s power and I think that no court should go against the will of the people when they are asked to do so. Of course, that does not mean that everybody should not pay taxes, but in cases like this, I think that the law should be respected.

My first advice to my gay friends and the gay viewers is this : let it go. Accept defeat first and fight back later. Sometimes, it takes many a defeat to get back a victory. Perseverance is a trait that is needed for them to have their right of marriage. There is always a second chance.

Next, analyze why you lost. The first reason that gays lost was because they did the campaign after the election, not before it. They did not bring awareness to this topic at all before the election. I wonder how many people knew about what Prop 8 was about when they voted for it. There were some people who said that they thought voting for Prop 8 was a vote for gay marriage. That shows the abysmal failure on the gay groups part to get their message across.

Meanwhile, the churches and mosques were superbly organized. They did not take it lightly. It seemed to have meant more to the churches than it did to the gays. The Churhes and Mosques had their message out there and some people heard it, less so than those from gay people. This election was lost more to technicality than any other factor out there and this is not the fault of anybody but the gay community themselves.

Gays should also brush up their argument. For example, on many shows on channels like CNN, they just could not give a better answer. Drew Barrymore’s weeping would not win you the intellectual battle. Neither would mass demonstrations.

E.g. When the opposing person gives you an argument that : If today homosexuality is being allowed, what would be allowed tomorrow, pedophilia, bestiality or polygamy. Your answer should be this : Pedophilia should not be allowed as one party in the act is a minor and does not have a mentality of an adult. Bestiality should not be allowed as the animal does not have a similar mentality as an adult. And as for polygamy, it is already being allowed for religions like Islam and some Christian sects in the United States.

I think that they should also learn from the churches and try to outreach and make their point heard as much as possible. Go with less aggressive slogans like “We are people and we love too” or “Its natural.” Do not go out with slogans like “It is our right!”

I hope that gays have the right to get married one day. Gay marriage would not cause the sky to fall or a society to collapse, it would just make some people happy. So far 10% of American states have signed on to this, mostly in the North East.

I believe time is on the gays’ side. As the saying goes, “It pays to be patient.!”
